AL Qaeda tied to Iraq?

Ok...let me ask this question (bare with me please...)

Al Qaeda has claimed responsability for the Madrid Bombing, right? (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/5/120047.shtml) Also, Al Qaeda has promised more terrorism if they (Spain) do not withdraw from Iraq, (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/79862/1/.html) so one must ask himself, isn't there a possible connection that exist between Iraq and Al Qaeda?

I agree that there is ofcourse a possible connection. What I'd like to see is some concrete proof instead of this circumstantial stuff.

you have to be a little more clear on the subject itself :)

are you implying ties with saddam or are you just making a general observation that al-qaeda is and was in iraq? because the former is thus far untrue and the latter has never been in doubt...

I think it's probably somewhere in the middle. Perhaps no direct ties to Saddam, but their involvement IMO goes deeper than just the fact that they existed within Iraq's borders.

there is no doubt that al-qaeda were training in camps with the kurds to the north when saddam was in power... the same kurds whom he was trying to wipe out...

logically and idealogically I just don't see a middle ground... saddam was not exactly a religious man...

There were camps just north of Baghdad. We did not control those areas. We had not troops there. We only had a no fly zone. We didn't have ANY troops in Iraq. So to say they were just with the Kurds is a bald faced lie. Salmon Pac (sp) was just north of Baghdad.

there was some al-qaeda guy the coalition said was in baghdad having hospital treatment for a leg amputation... turns out he has both legs and was likely never in baghdad... something the administration has acknowledged and said the information placing him in baghdad was not sound...

Ya they said he may have never even lost that leg but that is not proof of any kind that Al-Qaeda had no connections with Iraq. The evidence is there and other intelligence agencies say there is. It is not just the US that makes this claim, it is many other countries.

Oh and salmon pac is a terrorist camp in Iraq where they train to hi-jack fish. :P
