you know something.. the name 6800 reminds me of the 5800 times.. remember when the 5800 came out and then the 5900 came out and trumped it. maybe Nvidia knew that ati was waiting to release their card till after nvidia.. so nvidia decided to release teh 6800 and we dont knwo it but it will be mid range... and the 6900 will come out after ATI has said.. "look at me, I'm faster." i dont know. i know fellow nvidia followers can see me logic.

It's quite possible. 6850u though.

NVIDIA generational releases always start with a performance card, followed by a low/mid/high end refresh.
To wit: NV30, followed by NV34/31/35. The NV36/38 refreshes were anomalous refreshes due to market positioning (e.g. ATI was winning and NVIDIA had to do _something_).

Or maybe, nvidia and ati are secretly the same corporation, and are just making huge amounts of profit off of the wars between the consumers. Ha! Hows that for a conspiracy.
Or
Nvidia is employed by the US government, trying to convert Canadians to Americans, while ATI is secretely employed by the Canadian government to convert Americans to Canadianism, so when we (the canadians) invade, there will be nothing to stand in our way, as the FanATIcs will have destroyed the US's infrastructure, or when the US invades canada, there will be nothing to stand in their way, as the nvidiots will have destroyed the Canadian infrastructure. MOWAHAHAHAHAHA!!
How does the 6800 remind you of the 5800? The 5800 wasn't all that great, but they chose 6800 so there will be some numbers left over for the NV45.

I think that its a given that faster cards will come out every year, just think 2 years from now the 6800U will be too slow for gaming

I honestly don't think so.. 2 years from now the 6800u will be much like what the 9700pro is today - still a very viable card; certainly not the fastest, but capable enough and supporting all the major features.

you may say that, but i'm guessing that you'll read the r420 reviews just the same as every single person on this forum :)
i'm not saying that its better, i'm saying that i personally as a self proclaimed ati user am not ready to dismiss the x800 based on how the 6800u does
but, still, to each his own
