Imagine if the low-end card was 4x1 and was just an NV40 with 12 pipes disabled :D

"I softmodded my 6200U into a 6800U!!! woooot!!!! this is the greatest day of my life!!! ;D

I guess they might go as low as 8, but i don't think they will have that amount of faulty chips to satisfy the mainstream market with semi-faulty NV40 chips. I think they will have a different core for every family. As in, high-end, midrange, low-end. I'm hoping to see high end 16x1/12x1, mid 8x1, low 4x1.

Awesome, only kicker is youll have some low quality RAM and your core will be gasping for memory bandwidth.

Nope they arn't disabled they just an't there they can add the pipelines they need this makes it cost effective and stops lower end parts canabilzing high end products.

are you saying its a different core alltogether? whatever happened to the nv40 that didnt make 16 pipes?

It done in sections so they can add extra pipelines to the core this helps keep R&D costs down as there is no need to develop other cards Also this stops people from enabling the extra pipelines like with the RADEON9500 & 9800SE so it doesn't canalize the higher end cards.

Think they could add more then 16 pipe , if its scales so well maybe go as far as 32 pipe refresh :drooling:
