The 'fx' was only used to cash in on the rumors that the NV30 would contain 3DFx's 'Rampage' technology. Of course, it didn't, but that did not stop them from taking advantage of a free marketing opportunity and try to acquire some of the former 3DFx fans.

Heh, I thought they were going with FX for the tie-in to movies considering they highly promoted it being close to cinematic computing. Oh well...
