Hey all, just wondering if anyone has heard anything about when an AMD64 driver will be due out for FreeBSD

I'm running 5.2.1 at the moment :)

It seems that FreeBSD/amd64 doesn't currently support loadable kernel modules; there also doesn't seem to be FreeBSD/x86 (?), let alone Linux binary compatibility.

The question above was asked over a year ago. NVidia's line remains: "No plans, but do keep begging for it." I think, we all made a big mistake buying NVidia's cards for our shiny new amd-machines :thumbdwn:

Be happy, at least there is a FreeBSD x86 driver, try it with an ATI card and see how far you'll get.

Hmm...fraid not:

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.3R/relnotes-amd64.html#KERNEL

Loadable kernel modules now work and are enabled in the amd64 build.

Preliminary support for running 32-bit Linux binaries on amd64 has been added. This feature is enabled with the COMPAT_LINUX32 kernel option.

Granted, it's preliminary, but the loadable kernel modules are completely implemented in there. Why would you need linux binary compat for a FreeBSD AMD64 driver, anyway? Shouldn't it be natively built on a FreeBSD AMD64 machine?

FreeBSD 5.3 AMD64 does support loadable kernel modules.
FreeBSD/x86 compatibility is provided with the line COMPAT_IA32 in kernel config.
Linux/32 compatibaility is provided with the line COMPAT_LINUX32 in kernel config.
Wating for 64 bit linux compatibility if that is an issue.
But those options do work and have been loaded/tested in my current FreeBSD 5.3 RELEASE AMD64 kernel.

I hope you can release the drivers soon. The only remaining thing I need to configure yet for amd64

Tell me, what other vendor supports FreeBSD? Oh that's right, none. I think you made a big mistake alright, picking the OS.
