I guess it wouldn't matter, especially since they are saying it will be in stores as soon as it is launched.

What's even better is the bringing forward of the X800XT. I find those listed clock speeds to be believable for the X800Pro, 475/450, not bad. Since they say the X800XT will be clocked higher AND be 16x1, My guess is it will be 500MHz, and 600MHz (at most) memory. These clocks seem almost believable, and will provide great performance (8000MP/s filrate!).

Still, i hope this will force nVidia to counter further.. unfortunately initial indications show that it doesn't look like they will get far with their NV4x core as far as clock ramping is concerned.. I'm behind nVidia for now. I see PS3.0 as something that will actually matter this year, and i think it's time we moved to 32-bit precision for shaders. The cards are powerful enough! What's more their outstanding z/Stencil fillrate is just mind boggling and will surely make the NV40 the card to have for Doom3. So basically, i'm hoping ATi does reach my speculated clock speeds, just so nVidia counter :) I can't wait.

Of course i haven't made up my mind yet.. but i'm liking NV40 so far due to features as well as performance. My 9800pro is great but i want a next-gen card, not one that's just twice as fast.

This card (X800 PRO) is meant to fight Geforce 6800 non Ultra - the one with 12 pipelines and should be in retail as soon as ATI launches it.

RADEON X800 PRO vs. GeForce 6800 -- $399
RADEON X800 XT vs. GeForce 6800 Ultra -- $499

This round may go to ATI again if they position their pieces right and if that information is true. :drooling: :drooling:

As for the specs, the R420PRO or should we call it X800PRO will be clocked at 475 MHz, 25 MHZ higher then we suggested since yields are better, while the memory will be clocked at 900MHz as we suggested before.

not bad, could be quite competitive with the non ultra, but then were talking $399 for the x800 pro against $299 for the 6800 so theres the possibility the x800 may be faster, but dont flame me for this, lets wait for reviews to be sure. pricing could change as well. I did hear of 550 core clocks for the x800xt but that again is speculative.

It's curius that ATI shoul launch the pro after the XT
(just oposed to nividia)
But's if rumours are true ATI's cards should have less
transistors (maybe due the lack of 32 bit colur and ps3.0)
so they should be cooler and higher cloked.

Could they be faster? (in Ps2.0 of course)

More than two weeks of intrigue

Actually GeForce 6800 will be priced at $299...

:POKE:Considering the fact that those quick to judge will automatically assume NVIDIA has won this round once the X800 Pro debuts with its 12-pipe architecture, it would make more sense to debut the cream of the crop first and then introduce scaled down versions.

unless x800pro can compete with 6800 Ultra?
what if it's inside 10% margin with 6800 Ultra?

then you'll have everyone drooling for x800XT ;)

I think here is a possible reason why X800 Pro launch date pushed from 26 April to 4 May because X800 Pro cards could be on sales on the same day as it launch. ATI exectives think Geforce 6800 and 6800 Ultra will be on sales on that day will harm X800 Pro sales that customers were tempted by 6800 Ultra's many features, if X800 Pro is slight faster, many customers does not care about speed after reading the reviews and the launch party and watched the clips. So moved the date to 4 May probably wise decision so it may will make some money on sales.

Huh?

I think what you are trying to say is that the X800Pro will be on shelves the same day as the launch. If this is the case then potential buyers can get some satisfaction by be able to buy the card they just read about immediately. In the case of the 6800's we are all sitting here drooling :drooling: at the thought of seeing this monster in action, jerking off  to screenshots and mermaids, but wont be able to get off until June. :p

How about a real product launch instead of a paper launch?

How about R420 be on the street before the Nv40?

How about being able to buy your R420 a few days after the reviews hit the web?
