View Full Version : Turning PATA drives into SATA drives

I'm planning on turning the drives that are in my sig (WinXP Box) into SATA drives. What are my advantages of doing this? Are their any special "gotchas" I need to look out for?

advantage: smaller cables
disadvantage: you pay for the converter
Theres no real performance difference on the drives, your effectively paying for the smaller sechsy cables
Well this was what i got with 2x WD 80GB SE 8MB drives on an Highpoint Rocket 1520 SATA RAID 66Mhz PCI card.
However my Peformance was ALOT lower on the AMD system w/ nForce2 Ultra :(

The only advantages would be smaller cables (as mentioned previously) and the ability to use your drives with your onboard SATA RAID, which you wouldn't do anyway since you have mismatched drives.
It wouldn't be worth the $40-50 for two converters.
You can still RAID them but you will only get 160GB out of your 80GB & 160GB drives
dics...imo you're opening yourself up to more problems than its worth....going with converters...you'll gain no performance improvement.
You will if you use an NF2 board :D
His KV8....has native SATA...it'll be faster than anything on the NF7
