The memory clock for the 6800 is rated at 700 MHz and the 6800UV is rated at 1 GHz. The 6800 contains 128 MB of DDR memory and the 6800UV includes 256 MB GDDR 3 memory. Both cards contain a 256-bit memory bus.

so let me put it this way:
6800 at 350/700
6800uv(ultra value? pro?) at 400/1000
6800u at 400/1200(16 pipes, the others with 12)
prices $299, $399 and $499 to compete with the x800se, pro and xt at same prices. makes sense to me :)

IT's very interesting, that some manufacturer do not write the GPU clock speed of the 6800.
http://www.ivmm.com/inno3d/geforcefx/product_gf_6800_ultra.html
And when you visit the HP of nvidia, you will see that they also do not mention the GPU clock speed of their 6800er model.
So I guess they wait for the presentation of ATI's R420, and then they decide for the clock speed.
The higher they go with clock speed, the less chips will fullfill that requirement, and that increases the costs. Thats perhaps the reason why they anounced the chip with comfortable 400 mhz.
ATI goes to the limit with clock speed, so Nvidia will also have to increase them perhaps.
On the other hand, NVIDIA is under pressure to deliver a high amount of chips as quickly as possible, and when the GPU specs are 400 mhz then they are quicklier in production. To be quick, they will perhaps even sell chips that are suited for 500+ mhz gpu clock as a 6800U with GPU clock of 400 Mhz.
Later, they will sort the chips, and only the bad ones will be sold as a 6800 or 6800U and the good ones perhaps as 6850 or 6850U.
I think ATI would start with the XT version if they could, but I guess the yield is not good enough and so they cannot deliver them. For ATI I guess it must be very difficult to deliver the XT because they must first sort out the chips with 16 working pipes and then from that group of chips they must sort out those who are suited for 600 Mhz GPU Core.
