View Full Version : ATI Speaks Softly And Carries A Big Stick
Again, your source can give no numbers, no explination, and no explination of why and how.
But his picture is just perfect for ATi. Lets recap what we know from the mouse so far.
ATi will have
Clean sweep in all benchmarks and all games.
It will be in store shelves way before NV40
It will be alot cheeper than NV40.
It will run at a higher clock rate, yet take less power, and run cooler.
Wow that is an amazing set of specs!~ Its like someone was saying out what would be a perfet senario for ATi. Suspisious?
Have you been talking to the mouse too??? He never told me anything about price, nor did he say anything about being on the shelves before NV40s. As far as The power consumption and temperature ... well I guess you could infer that from the chip comment. But you could also interpret the chip comment as saying NVIDIA is one hot card and the ATI card is bland and boring.

ON Microns web site it says 600-800 but I guess your underclocking down to 800 from 833 would fit in nicely with this. I am puzzled as the web site says
"Note that initial samples are available now only on a limited basis. Availability of general sampling is scheduled for 3Q04"
Is the web site out of date ?
If Micron did have 800Mhz DDR3 and I was in charge I'd be putting it only on Crucial's X800 to give their own card an edge :)
Regards
Andy
Micron has to supply ATI and it Board makers first before selling to others. That is why the websit is that way. Micron is with in months to moving to .07 micron proces now. When this happens it will crank up the speeds to 1000/2000 to 1200/2400 I was told. The mask was made to run on .11 and .07 so no extra work on new maks.

Yes, the mouse said and i quote "March 1", and we do have offical statement from Nvidia's Board partners, and they state NV40 will be in stores "Late March, Early April". Thats the offical word, so we have no evidence to not support it.
Now, why can all his BS be 'interpeted' diffrently, simple because he is makeing it up.
The oldist trick in the book, is when you want to make something up, you be as vauge as possible, and claim its ture.
For example, if someone says "Wow, the NV40 is really kicking the 9800XT's ass in these benchmarks"
Then a FanATic would say "Oh is it? I cant say anything because im under NDA, but i will say that!"
Little do most people realize, that part of all NDA's is you cannot speak about your NDA. For example, if i had a next gen card, and signed a NDA, and you asked me directly a question about the next gen card and i told you "I cant tell you anything, because i am under NDA" i would of broke it.
So again, the mouse is just makeing stuff up.

Sincerely I see no reason why to doubt Kambatant or GI Bro. They are both well respected mods on R3D.

havent posted in ages and thought id say hello to all.
the gf6 is a great leap up and lets all look forward to what ati has to offer.
i think we got about 2 weeks to wait, i doubt anyone buyng a gf6 right now will be dissapointed, even if ati does come out a little faster.

Whats so ironic? I mean when a mouse starts to babble GPU performance and availability dates, you listen! Besides... Would you trust a talking mouse in a church, or some dude/dudette on a website?
I am sure that this info is directly from a higher power. After all I have never heard a talking mouse before. A dog? OK; Maybe; But mice just dont talk IMO.
PS. What would make anyone think this was a Catholic Church? Just Curious...
Another shaker and a mover with the inside information.

underclocked? wow waste ram worth more than its weight on gold when they could be using 1GHz ram instead? itll probably be used on $3000 workstation cards
Thats the way my Geforce FX 5900 was, 2.2ns Memory Clocked @ 700 mhz.

Hey Chris how's that 5900 running after it was flashed? Any problems? I was going to do it with 5900nu but I read some horror stories so I didn't flash it.

Ran a little hotter, I havent noticed any problems. Flashing it to a 5900 Ultra (Not 5950 Ultra) has produced the same results as Overclocking. Cept its stock. I did add a Case Fan and mounted it on the back of my leadtek card for additional cooling. But everything been running great for a while now.

The 6800 Ultra board itself runs cooler than other DX9 cards such as the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra (and 5700 Ultra with GDDR2) and RADEON 9700 PRO. Seems the mouse is compeltely wrong on the 'nvidia runs hot, ati runs cool'

"Runs Hot" is irrelevant in these matters. The point here is how much heat does the card have to dissipate to maintain those temperatures. With a monster fan and a huge chunk of metal attached to it there is no doubt in my mind that this sucker is cranking out serious BTU's. :firedevil
One thing I did like about the old dustbuster two slot solution is that the heat was being pumped right out of the case. Thats not the situation with these new NV monster cards.

that comes out to 909MHz stock. I thought the fx5900 was clocked at 400/850 while the ultra at 450/850? thats only a slight underclock on the ram to increase yields and make overclockers happy

Nope Mine wasn Xt, 400/700
Like all geforce FX 5900SE, They are clocked @ 400/700
Mine Came with 2.2ns Memory, Was massively underclocked.

Btw, since we're on the issue of cooling. This is How my FX 5900XT is setup.
With the Fan on the back, It runs Cooler @ 450/850 than it did @ 400/700 by about 12 degrees Celsius

then you may have gotten lucky they used the same ram for your card as with the normal fx5900s. alot of people cant push the ram even to 800MHz, those that can flash it to a fx5900

Of Course I was lucky, I was simply saying alot of manufacturers use ram way out of spec for what it is, Just kinda find them ;)

You seem to be very confused.
However, Running hot and dissapating heat is not a good analagy. If a gpu is running at 120c, and you put a big cooler, on it it still dissapates the same amount of heat if you had a small cooler on it.
Dissaptaing heat better dose not change how hot it runs, the same amount of heat will be pumped into the case nomatter what cooler your useing.
And in nvidias case, Less heat is put in the case compared to the 9700pro, 9800pro and 9800XT.

Dissapating heat away from the chip does change how it runs. Take the heatsink off and see how it runs then. The actual measured running temperature of the GPU when a catalyst such as a heat sink or air flow is used, is irrellevent to the amount of heat it dissipates. Plus if the cooler pushes air out of the case directly as compared to pumping out into the case then the cooler you are using does matter.
It is not I who is confused... :screwy:
As for your last comment prove it.....
