I was in confession and the lord spoke to me through a little mouse drinking from the holy water. This is what he had to say:

The X800XT and X800Pro will both be 550-600Mhz. The only difference will be pipelines and mem speed. The X800Pro will meet or beat 6800Ultra in all current games and benchmarks. (Except maybe Quake 3 at lower than 1280x1024)

Before I could ask if they would take the Doom3 crown he scurried off shouting that they would both be on the store shelf as soon as May 1st and certainly before any of the 6800 parts.

Whats funny is that all of it is completely made up.

accroding to them, itll be 475MHz. does anyone have inside info to confirm or deny this? 550+ seems like a VERY high core clock

I dont know why you think the mouse would have any reason to make up such a thing.....

Well it's bunk to me for one simple reason...you failed to capitalize Lord. ;) Besides, I'm not Catholic, so holy water doesn't mean much to me. :p Oh, and everyone knows mice aren't privy to that kind of info...now if it was some monkeh that spoke to you...well then that would be completely different.

Ironically enough, most of what you said is absolutely true. X800 PRO will beat the 6800U and will be on store shelves way faster. :ORDER:

What you really mean is that this is what you really want to see, folding for Rage3d, isn't it? ;)

Whats so ironic? I mean when a mouse starts to babble GPU performance and availability dates, you listen! Besides... Would you trust a talking mouse in a church, or some dude/dudette on a website?

I am sure that this info is directly from a higher power. After all I have never heard a talking mouse before. A dog? OK; Maybe; But mice just dont talk IMO.

PS. What would make anyone think this was a Catholic Church? Just Curious...

This is BS. I find it highly unprobable that they can hit over 500 with 160-180 mill trannies. :screwy:

They hit over 420 mhz on a .15u with 110 million on the 9800xt. I would give them a bit more credit than that give they are on .13u with low K.

whats funny is I would probably listen to a talking mouse before I listened to Inquirer LOL.

Well I just asked my dog his thoughts :-

"Woof"

"Woof woof "

Which means that if the PRO has 12 pipelines and is 475MHz then it will be losing badly in all current games. The 2nd woof was about Ati's poor drivers by the way :D LOL sorry, my dog hasn't learnt how good they are nowadays.

I like your title

ATI Speaks Softly And Carries A Big Stick

I suggest the people who tout their cards take this to heart also ;)

To be serious you may well be right, but if not be prepared for some stick ( not my dogs ).

I see it going like this

X800Pro is 5-10% down on 6800U
All the fanatics say, but wait, wait for the X800XT
The X800Xt arrives and is marginally quicker.
All the fanatics say ..I told you so, the mouse did not lie.

Everybody's a winner !

Ati is good but Teddy Roosevelt they ain't. :D Course I could be wrong, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well i cant tell you why a mouse would make up such a thing, but i can point out why everything is false.

The X800Pro will meet or beat 6800Ultra in all current games and benchmarks. (Except maybe Quake 3 at lower than 1280x1024)

Resolutions lower than 1280x1024?! Gee, most games seem to be heavily cpu limited with the 6800 Ultra, even 1600x1200 barely makes a dent in its FPS. What is more likely to happen, is that at low resoltuions, their fps will be the same.

Next, how is it going to make a 'clean sweep' even the 9800XT vs 5950 cant make a clean sweep in all current games. Its not fact, its fantacy. The mouse did not give out any specific benches or numbers just "Oh, well ummmm, all of htem"

Before I could ask if they would take the Doom3 crown he scurried off shouting that they would both be on the store shelf as soon as May 1st and certainly before any of the 6800 parts.

The all knowing mouse seems to not know the Doom III question, wow, its pritty good to speculate that the 6800 Ultra will win pritty well. But becuase the all knowing mouse, seems to only want to spread good things about ATi's next gen card.

Also on the release date, that seems to be a big unbrella term. But lets look at the May 1, i dont have any secret contacts at ATi, nor is my best freind just happen to work at ATi, or my cousin/nephew etc. But i do know abit about trucking since i work for a trucking company. May 1 is a Saturday, and stores do not get deliveres on saturdays. At least the INQ's date is the 4th witch is plauseable.

And i now have officaly been watching too much of Penn & Tellers: Bull****!~

I know a little about the mem the X800 will use. My friend that works at Micron in the IC layout area told me some info. They are sell all the GDDR3 they can make up to speeds of 833/1666 now. He said the yeild is very good too. He did a large chunk of the IC layout of the GDDR3. And if I remember right Micron has to supply ATI and its board makers first before selling GDDR3 to others.

Don't get your hopes up. In the past ATI has been very conservitive with clock speeds.

I did not say its goning to be 833 but micron is selling 833. It could be for the XT, FireGL based on R420, or underclocked on the XTs.

underclocked? wow waste ram worth more than its weight on gold when they could be using 1GHz ram instead? itll probably be used on $3000 workstation cards

Think about it. The 9700pro had mem speced at 350 but ran at 310. The 5900U had mem speced at 500 but clocked at 850.
That is what I mean by underclocked mem.

Guess who I just spoke to again at the beer store!

Yep the mouse!

I was on my way to the register with a trusty 12-pack :alc: and suddenly as I passed by the "chip" section I heard a psssst. :thinker:

He pointed to the bag of Doritos' Fire Nacho Cheese chips and said: "NVIDIA". I was a bit confused for a moment until he pointed to the bag of Cool Ranch flavored Doritos' and said: "ATI". Then pooof! He was gone! :scatter:

Again, your source can give no numbers, no explination, and no explination of why and how.

But his picture is just perfect for ATi. Lets recap what we know from the mouse so far.

ATi will have
Clean sweep in all benchmarks and all games.
It will be in store shelves way before NV40
It will be alot cheeper than NV40.
It will run at a higher clock rate, yet take less power, and run cooler.

Wow that is an amazing set of specs!~ Its like someone was saying out what would be a perfet senario for ATi. Suspisious?

ON Microns web site it says 600-800 but I guess your underclocking down to 800 from 833 would fit in nicely with this. I am puzzled as the web site says

"Note that initial samples are available now only on a limited basis. Availability of general sampling is scheduled for 3Q04"

Is the web site out of date ?

If Micron did have 800Mhz DDR3 and I was in charge I'd be putting it only on Crucial's X800 to give their own card an edge :)

Andy
