Ok here is the problem, I have owned my Geforce 4 ti4600 for 2 years now.
Funny thing is windows recognizes it as a ti4400, as well as the nvidia drivers. Now my default core clock/memory speeds are as follows
Core- 300mhz
Memorey - 648mhz
Strange?

Hm, did you change Operating Systems? Or did it suddenly just happen?

Those are the default clock speeds for the Ti4600.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your clocks are the default for the 4600.

I have formatted OS many times, it's alway displayed as ti440
I know damn well it's a ti4600 in here, but for the last 2 years it's been bothering me that my system does not recognize it. Is there any explanation as to why on earth a 4600 is comming up as 4400.
Maybe the bios in the card is messed up or who the hell knows why????
Anyhow I plan to update this card to a worthy X800XT, no way in hell I buy Nvidia again the image quality is garbage on this card, colors are all washed out
PS. Guys iremeber a friend of mine telling me there is a mod I can do on the Geforce 4 cards that will improve the filters on it????

I ran a Ti4600 for a year and it always showed up as one. If your card is showing up as a Ti4400 then there's only one solution.........If it quacks like a duck...........then it probably is one. :(

Where did you get card, and why didn't you ask for an exchange? - If you bought it secondhand, could it be that it was "modded" - so the clockspeeds would match a Ti4600?
If you're going to get another card, I wouldn't bother altering the outputfilter, but rather sell it and leave it at that.
For me, I've noticed that the image quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and I've always had good luck with Leadtek.
Don't dismiss NV as of yet - their GF6 family seems very capable and haven't heard anything negative about the IQ.
Once both ATi and NV have their offering @ retail, see them both in action and then make the qualified choice.

So, not liking the IQ of the 4600 means the 6800 sucks too? K.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but I beleive you purchased a modded TI4400 card that runs at TI4600 levels. :( This is a most unfortunate, and it's not the first time I've heard of this scam either.
The good news though, is that the two cards are nearly on par in all games and benchmarks so don't lose any sleep over it. :) All it really means is you can't overclock as high as a genuine TI4600 would :|
My old ASUS V8440-TD did 315/700MHz :)

This card comes stright from DELL(meaning it's OEM), also I have the card overclocked and volt moded to run at the speeds listed below, I use RIVA tuner to overclock
core-340mhz
memorey-740mhz
I am, cooling the card with 2 copper heatsinks on both sides, also the memory has individual copper heat sinks as well, thermal paste used was Artic Silver. Also I sanded/Laped my GPU, Laped the heatsinks so achieve the best thermal contact possible.
Also the card uses the same samsung ram the ti4600 is spec at, this is very strange. Not that is matter to much, but I was determined to find a logical answer that might help explain this phenomenon. Also I would like to state, that "I appreciate to forward answers I have recieved from you guys"

No, but if the X800XT stomps all over the 6800U, plus ATI has better IQ, they don't add botch up cheats in there drivers, they don't try and deviate from the dx9 standard and force video game developers to adopt there property code paths, and this whole NVIDIA-the way it's meant to be played, just makes me sick. I mean seriously I’m sure all you guys agree that NVIDIA become way to ****y, and began acting like Microsoft, before ATI came in and annihilated them(FX) with the rx300
Now the 6800 looks like the BIG N is getting some of there priorities straight, it's about time, you can thank ATI for NVIDIA’s new NV40
Also I do not like the fact the 6800 is a monster Hoover which requires 2 Molex connectors. All in all so far (we have yet to see ATI's hand) the 6800 is looking good, another thing for you guys to keep in mind is that the NV40 samples given to the review sites were manufactured using A1 silicon, therefore it might be safe to assume that the retail version which will be using the A2, might be clocked higher?

OK, you have to go now. If NVIDIA is so bad, then why do you still own one?

Simple, becuase when I purchased my card, it was the best at the time.(ATI still had better IQ qwith the 8500, but crappy drivers). I can still play most games considering there are all DX8 (farcry the exception) at good fps, for that is the reason why I have yet to still upgrade, and I only intend to upgrade when HALF 2 or DOOM 3 comes out, otherwise it's not worth it. My point about Nvidia was that after the G4 series, they got mega sloppy. Are you denying that the FX line was crap, it's common knowledge that the r300 core was the winner. What about the driver cheats, what about 3dmark2003 I remember Nvidia stating that 3dmark is trash, yet now with there 6800 they are prasing it.
Look I do not play favourites here. If ATI's new X800XT outperforms in both speed and IQ then why on earth would I purchased the 6800. Also considering Nvidia's past scandless behaviour one must take caution when switching over back to the big N. I am not here to trash NVIDIA, but since I was asked I have given my perspective on the matter. When I pay $699can for a new card, I make damn sure that I buy top quality.
I mean heck look at my username, one would think that I am an NVIDIA fanboy.
Peace

Good grief, can we say t-r-a-n-s-p-a-r-e-n-t ? Who do you think you're trying to fool? This is an insult to our membership. :rofl
hmm, did u buy this card brand new or did u buy it second hand?
if it's second hand then it's very obvious. your card is just a permanently overclocked 4400. it's not very hard at all. the card has just had its bios clock speeds edited and flashed.
nv has protection so you can't change the model (i.e. 4400 to a 4600) but u can change the speeds. i have my ti4200 permanently overclocked using a edited bios.

He's a worthless troll mikez, don't waste your words.
"He" ? Sounded like a lady to me. ;)
Hmm... funny thing, i bought a PNY ti4400 from the refurb section at NewEgg last year and guess what, it has a ti4600 core and 2.8ns mem. Funnier yet, it shows it as a ti4400 with matching clocks on boot up and in windows. Im happy to report, it does ti4600 speeds easily but i haven't OC'd any more than that at the moment.

Nvidia256,yoou card is not a ti4400. I don't believe it's even possible to overclock a Ti4400 to 340/740 using nothing more than fan cooling. Don' t worry about it, without a doubt you have
Geforce4 ti4600, common sense should tell you that.
the memory definately shouldn't be able to overclock to geforce 4 ti 4600 level...if i recall correctly the ti4600 uses 2.8 ns memory and the 4400 uses 3.5 ns? or something
he memory definately shouldn't be able to overclock to geforce 4 ti 4600 level...
BINGO!!!!

bzzzzt
i clocked my 4200 up to 333 / 747 on air. i think for a decent ti4400 get to there is not hard at all. it would make more sense if the person he bought it from knew this card could handle a higher clock so he flashed the card and passed it off as a 4600.
the NV drivers are usually not wrong. the card is what it says it is.
FYI... technically, you can't change the bios to a different one on nVidia cards, you can however change the clocks so you will have "new" default clocks and pass it off as something that it isn't. You can edit the cards BIOS by changing to higher than default clocks and display at bootup whatever you want. The nVidia driver will detect what type of chipset it has anyways and thats something you cannot change.

First of all, I doubt you've even used an ati card to compare the image quality. I have switched off between ati and nvidia several times this past year, and I see not one bit of difference. I own two $750 CRTs too, so I can easily see any difference, if there was any.
http://mysite.verizon.net/res6vgj7/img_0380.jpg <- pic
Also as said before, nvidia's image quality is dependent on the brand.. NOT THE CHIPS. If you get a good brand, it will EASILY beat an ATI card in terms of IQ.
http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/tech_info/pdfs/parhelia/us_displ.pdf <- matrox tested it themselves.
Secondly, I can't see how nVIDIA had "scandless" behavior for making nvidia users get more performance out of their cards. I'm sure nvidia users would rather have had nvidia do nothing and keep their crappy performance... : screwy :
