View Full Version : Radeon X800PRO will beat NV40 Ultra
and they're not even talking x800xt... interesting rumor, tho a few details appear incorrect.
details (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15406)
couple things tho.. where are all the ati fanboys bitching about "sacrificing iq/features for speed (their battlecry last round).
and, if this is true, how many of you would pay $200 less for a 12 pipe card that's faster, but doesn't support the features of the $500 ultra?
then again, do you think nv will pull a rabbit out of their hat with increased clock speeds, totally surprising ati?
interesting times, for sure.
possibly fp24 vs fp32? who knows
hmmm.. interesting... cant wait till later this month

I'll take the NV40.
But I'm going to use the next card I buy for at least 12 months.

So far everything they have stated this round has come to pass. ;)
Why do people post speculative articles from the enquirer ?
lol, why do people post "speculative" threads, and why do others read and respond to those threads (many which are just fanboi fantasies)?
as for the inquirer, they were almost spot on w/ their nv40 rumors, and provided (accurate for the most part) photos and specs long before anyone else...
like i said, some details may be off, but overall they get alot right. ya just gotta take everything w/ a grain of salt :)

I find your signature rather amusing. I can only wonder if you're going to change it in the interest of making yourself look like less of a dumb@ss.

Psst, MUYA and those people are stone cold sober... lol

That satman lets rip!!! :eek:
BTW e != I or was it e =! I kthnxbai

..makes me wonder all the more ;)
The canaries are singing that 12 pipelines, 475MHz/950MHz card with 96 bit precision and PS 2.0 shader only will end up faster then 16 pipelines, 400MHz /1100MHz cards with 128 bit precision and PS 3.0 shader modelWell that says it all :D

hmm.. seems a bit of hypocrisy to me.. your signature calling everyone who reads it "a fool" and all.... :lol2:

Even if Ati's upcoming will outperform the 6800U by far no way in he.. that I will buy that piece of crap.. no PS3 support says everything I need to know. Annyway the power of the 6800 series should be more then enough for us all for a very long time ;-)
Atlest for the Nv45 heh

PS 3.0 is nice but I don't care about it enough right now to steer me away from purchasing a faster card. I'll definitely pass on the X800 Pro but if the X800 XT smokes 6800u then I'll definitely buy that card, PS 3.0 or not.

If that is true I will preorder a X800XT really. But I want to see IQ comparisons first.
If you're looking purely at the numbers, consider this:
R420 => 12 pipes * 2 instructions * 475 Mhz = 11400M theoretical ops/s
NV40 => 16 pipes * 2 instruction * 400 Mhz = 12800M theoretical ops/s
The wrinkle here is ATI may user their die space to add more registers for shader processing, and possibly be a tad more efficient with shader processing making the two comparable. I seriously doubt that a pipeline designed completely for 32bit processing is really slower at what it was intended to do (unlike nv3x which lost speed when running 32bit) however the register space is the only thing I can think of that may give ATI a slight speed boost in some cases.
To be honest I will still be surprised if a 12pipe X800Pro is faster at 475mhz across the board than a 16pipe NV40. The other thing to keep in mind is that clock speed can be dialed up, since its reall y coming down to ATI making up for a 25% deficiency in width with a 19% advantage in clock speed. You can add mhz more easily than changing strategies and releasing a 16pipe chip and calling it x800pro (that's still a possibility though.)
Dammit, I wanna see what his old sig was... lol :)
