nah its not bad... I just thought it might be lower with the clock speed you have... :)

It's about right for P4's at my level as far as I can tell from looking around. SuperPi is considered an "Athlon" bench by many because that is the CPU that is the fastest at it. There are a few fellows with massively overclocked extremes that have very good scores but you see very few P4's like mine below 36. Some have to push to 4GHz to even get 36. I saw some 35s and 34s but these were all after 4Ghz. Usually 4.1 and up.

Like I said I can get 36 at 3.77 2-2-2-5 with Street racer from my GAT but the rig isn't wholly stable with it.

I am actually selling the 3.4 and my Ram because I can do the same thing with an OC'ed 3.0c ala, JakUp. The reason I first purchased the 3.4 was I was giving up overclocking :D Well that isn't happening >Obviously.

In gaming an OCed 3.0c will put up better numbers than my rig at the same GHZ because of the larger FSB. Since I am OC addicted I might was well get 3.6/3.7 with the 3.0c. I have to run all the way to 3.9 with a medium sized FSB to match that now.

I have sold the 3.4 for a slight loss, and the ram. I made up for it by selling my 299 GT for 440usd. Soon I will be sitting on a 3.0c OCZ 3700 EB and a BFG 6800 Ultra.

3dmark03 is pretty much gpu dependent :)

however if you run the CPU tests you will see the a64's putting up some pretty big scores...

I have taken A LOT of time to review articles showing 1024x768 and up with stock AMDs vs Intel in games like Far Cry. At the low res you have a 5FPS advantage at most and I see no more than 3FPS at 1600x1200 with similiar graphics cards. My own personal experience bears this out as well.

Check the recent CPU scaling article at HardOcp. I play greater than 1024x768 with the highest detail so I can't really see getting a high end athlon or worse an intel extreme. Mid range Intel's with large FSBs are good rigs.

I'd advise folks that enjoy overclocking to go intel 2.4-3.0c and possibly 3.2. If you do have extreme cooling go on and try a Prescott. I have seen those things do incredible OC's when tamed. Over all though I'd say go the former.

If you don't oc and want a very good gaming rig to keep for awhile and upgrade on I would say the AMD 939 with a 3500.

I am no fan boy of intel I just think they are unduly shat upon and the AMD edge exaggerated. I think a 220usd processor or less that does 3800 type performance is impressive.

Have JakUp run the Bench'all Fortdemo from 1024x768 to 1600x1200 and the other fellow do the same. I serious doubt there will be anymore than 3-5FPS at any of those resolutions.

I just don't think 3-5FPS in the latest games at very high detail is worth 400-600 dollars to AMD or up to 800 dollars to Intel for the extreme.

I am not putting your processor down m8... I am saying that you can't use 3dmark03 as a valid cpu benchmark based off the 3dmark03 score...

if you want to compare relative cpu performance in a test such as 3dmark2001 or something like that where the cpu performance shows up clearer...

the 3000+ and 3200+ cpu's are around the $200 mark and both oc rather well and give excellent gaming performance... you won't get a 500-600mhz improvement over stock clock but due to the on-die memory controller you will have a better relative scaling of performance..

I am talking about some of the more extreme fan boys out there. You are right that the 3000-3200 is a very good value and decent at OC. It's a good recommendation on your part. Some folks want to avoid registered ram etc. I like the Intel's personally because they shine very well outside of the gaming arena too. Also I like being able to fix my bus at 33/66 when I OC. I don't like OCing my entire system.

I hadn't checked this thread in awhile either... Since I tried to bench the game and couldn't get anywhere. Perhaps after a fresh install it would be worth trying again. If it crashes, I have no clue at this point, what to do to get it to bench however...

Well I got lucky and received a 3.0c out of Malay with 30 caps. I am running 3.8GHZ at default voltage with a 1013FSB and 6101|Mb/sec. I will bench some once I get that BFG Ultra. I can boot 3.9 with this bad boy but it will not do the entire SuperPi test without a stop/error. Windows seems stable though. I am wondering if playing with voltages/timings more might be the answer. I love this OCZ ram it is sweet but I am wondering if I shouldn't have went 4200 EL. I got my SuperPi 1m down to 35 now. :D Go me.

I stopped when my cpu topped @ 3.4ghz... didn't push it beyond but was rock solid stable and this was using a simple zalman cooler... good oc'ers those northy's...
