View Full Version : GeForce FX 5900XT Owners Any good?
Hey Everyone I am Pretty new here ^^; but Ive been on the IRC channel for sometime now :P.. ok So I went to newegg.com and saw this CHaintech GeForce FX 5900xt for $175 USA Dollars.. Some of friends at The IRC channel say I should get that one (wich I am getting it) I am also trying to get 512mb of ram ^^; btu I think I'll only have enough for 1 stick of 256mb of ram I currently have 128mb of ram what if I add the 256mb of ram? will it make things a bit faster? Also any GeForce FX 5900xt Owners? Is the card a good choice? I basically want to play every game on the market right now XD.
Here are some games I will be playing: Farcry, Final Fantasy XI, Halo, Unreal Tournament 2004, BattleField 1942 and battleField Vietnam, and some other mmorpg's is this card good for them? oh yea and is the 128mb model :P THANX BAY

The 5900XT is a good card, best value for money right now. Thats why Nvidia stopped shipping the 5900XT chip, because it was hurting their 5700U sales badly. But, do you have the necessary CPU power to use the card to its full potential? And you will need the extra ram as well, 128mb is not enough these days.

for UT2K4 and newer games? I'm sorry but 1.6ghz and 384 RAM won't be enough to handle that. I recommend 1gig of RAM, and try overclocking your CPU.
Err srry for that wrong Quote ^^; Like I was saying LfcTony I will be buying anothe stick of 256mb of ram plus my old stick of 128mb of ram thats 384mb of ram so is that good enough? Oh and my CPU speed is 1.6Ghz is that good enough to play the games I want to play?
Errr. I never tried O'Clocking so I'm pretty new here ^^; and Also I was thinking to get a stick of 512mb of ram and just save the other money left and then buy another grapgic card like a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra ^^ what do you guys think I am pretty lost here :P
Well I was also thinking to instead of getting a GeForce FX 5900XT I should get a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra or non-Ultra and Buy 1 stick of 512mb of ram since my CPU wont let the GeFX 5900Xt work to its full potential ;.; I really hate when things like this happen :| I really dont know what to do :( help?
wee nvm I'm getting a RADEON 9600pro and a stick of 512mb of ram :P thnx

Bleh - NO.
If you need to go with a Radeon 9600, get the XT.
A 5700U or a 5900XT will both outperform a 9600 Pro easily. I mean, EASILY.
And a 5900XT overclocks a LOT better than a 9600 Pro.
That said....one 512mb stick of ram is going to be....barely adequate. You really need to try and get together 1gb. Looking forward (Doom3, HL2), 2gb looks to be more and more reasonable.

For reference, see the 3dMark03 score in my sig. That's on a 5900XT - 7012. The highest I could get on a volt-modded, watercooled, 9600 Pro was 4339.
Overclocking a 5900XT yields MUCH higher results than the same methods applied to a 9600 Pro.
Yea Your Right a lot of people told me the 5900XT was a lot better the the RADEON 9600pro.. also I will only have money left to buy 1 stick of 256mb of ram :\ oh well I'll be sure to Upgrade may ram the next time As soon As I can :P..
