Basically i have bought that new game: singles flirt up your life but i keep getting an error message saying my graphic card is oudated and that i should upgrade!
So i went to the nvidia site and downloaded one of the drivers (i didnt really know what i was doing), but it didnt work, so i went back to my normal one :O( and i still get the error message and the game refuses to co-operate.
Please help i have no idea what to do and i dont know which is the latest version. My operating system is ME.

i keep getting an error message saying my graphic card is oudated and that i should upgrade!

That's probably right. Your card is bordering on 6 years old, an eternity in this market. You can spend $40-50 and purchase a used GeForce3. For about $100-125 you can purchase a GeForce FX 5700. Either of those cards should be adequate to play whatever game you're trying to run.

Incidentally what are your other system specs? CPU, RAM, etc.

Heyy - thanx for the reply !!

Where do i look to find my other specs? And how do i install another graphics card? Would i have to physically stick it in??

I really do not know much about these kinda thins :retard:

Thanx xxx

Then Help him.

Dont make fun of him.

Sir, Do a search for DXdiag and load it.

Should allow you to save results to .txt file. Then Copy and Paste them here.

All we need is the first part,

should give us information about your system.

It should look something like this.

I bet I know what the problem is - the game probably uses T&L or something and her TNT isn't cutting it. I believe people who bought BF1942 had the same issue and had to upgrade to run the game. So really, just go out and buy a new card. Oh and wow 128 MB memory! You should look into getting at least 512 MB.

Welcome to the forum. I hope that we (aside from GamingLord, don't let him give you an opinion of a majority of nV News members) can offer you the help you need. Looking at the game you mentioned, you'd be well off getting either a used Geforce 3 or Geforce 4 ti (not a Geforce 4 MX) on eBay. If online auctions aren't your thing, you can try and find a Geforce FX 5700 or perhaps an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. Aside from that I have a few questions.

1. Is this a name brand PC? By that I mean Dell, Compaq, HP, etc.
2. If the first question is a yes, what's the model number? (I ask because it's possible this is a PCI video card)
3. What types of games do you normally play?

With answers to those questions we can really give you more help. Also I'd recommend investing in more memory. At least I'd get another 128MB stick of PC2100 DDR memory. That can be had for < $40 at most retailers.

EDIT: Looking at your DXDiag results, this is a PCI video card. If that's the case it's doubtful you have an AGP slot which is required for a card worth buying these days. The best you can do is go for a Geforce FX 5200 PCI card.

One thing to ALWAYS remember... look at the sytem requirements on the package, wether it be a game or regular program. If your system doesn't even come remotely close, don't even consider buying it because you can't return it after its been opened. Those TnT2 Riva 64 cards were good in its day, the best you can get away with is playing the old DOS based games... Doom, DukeNukem, Quake, Hexen, Heretic, etc. and possibly a few SWF games on the net.

You'll probably be able to get $15-20 for the TNT, and you could get a GF3 (from me, even!! I have a GF3 I'd be willing to part with for $35!)...

Yes, you'd have to physically pull teh old one out and put the new one in...

Here's what a gfx card looks like, just in case you haven't really seen one before...

Your system is dang near adequate for semi-serious gaming... If it were to have at least a GF3/Radeon8500 class card...

I must recommend that you do however purchase AT LEAST 256mb of memory for that system... Windows XP is very memory hungry, and seems to get more so with every service pack ;)... A 256mb chip could be had for around $35-40...

But with 512mb of RAM, and maybe a GF4 ti4200 (a step up from a GF3... remember, never ever buy anything "MX"), you would be perfectly balancing out your PC... Your rig's specs are pretty powerful still... don't let anyone tell you otherwise... (I said "pretty powerful", folks... I know there's some CPU dependant games out there that may not like a 1.33, but theres enough GPU dependant games out right now that still can deal with a cpu of that speed PROVIDED IT IS EFFICIENT ENOUGH... :p /me pokes a stick @ a P4 1.3 :p

Hope this helps a little.

Rage, I don't think a GF3 or 8500 (AGP anyway) would work, considering this.

AGP Status: Not AvailableIf AGP were available in this computer, I think they'd have one in there instead of a PCI. Of course I might be interpreting this wrong. For her sake, I hope I am.

If it turns out that she does have AGP available then I'm all for your recommendations. She's running Windows ME by the way, but more memory would still be worth it.

AAugh!! dang me... :p

Ok, so then I must recommend a Radeon 9100 PCI, which is in pretty much all situations, teh fastest PCI graphics card available... some can be had for fairly low prices (I think around $55-65), and if you get the 128 bit memory bus verison, you're getting you're money's worth... If you get the 64 bit model, you're basically paying the same price but getting only 2/3 the performance... Mind you, you gotta scatch bte kick and claw for every frame with a PCI card, so it's good in this situation to get the "best of" when looking for one...

And have you given thought to upgrading to Windows XP? Now (or soon, or something? :p) would be a good time... :)

The simple fact is that your TNT card dont support hardware T&L(transform&lighting) which can increase perfomance dramaticly. The Geforce2 Line used T&L so without it new games will be almost impossible to play or be very slow.

If you not a hardcore gamer then pickup a Geforce4 MX as they are very cheap and will do that job at lower settings.

Hmmm....yeah.

Windows ME is....a little dated. And definately undesirable - Win98SE was a better performing OS, and it predated it.

128mb of ram is...well, not enough.

Athlon (not XP!) at 1.3ghz...a little slow.

Soundblaster PCI without EAX 2!? My, that's an old card...

Seriously, you are looking at a pretty substantial set of upgrades, here. MININUM, to get this game working, you'll need to upgrade your ram and your video card - as noted, the Radeon 9100 PCI is probably your best bet. Here is a link (http://www.shentech.com/vixt91ra91pr3.html) to the best deal on this card I could find.

You're kinda on your own with the ram, because I don't know what your system takes.

Seriously, though? Might want to look at a whole new PC - especially if you plan on playing any other games released this year. If you really wanted to do some research on PCs and get knowledgeable about the hardware, you could probably piecemeal upgrade your current system throughout the year at a substantial cost savings, and get a faster-than-store-bought system in the end, anyway....but it's a hobby and a half!

If you wanted to consider a simple, 'off-the-shelf' upgrade....be aware you will be paying more and getting less than a do-it-yourself solution, but...

This guy at Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1076627909521&skuId=6341372&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01172) isn't a bad buy. Maybe you could sell your current system for a few hundred bucks to a family member, or give it to your kids (or nieces/nephews, whatever) or something.

Now that I look at some screenshots, I'm not quite sure that your current system, upgraded or not, is going to be able to handle this game. Since the game is only available in the UK at this time, I'm going to assume that's where you are as well. With that, it's going to be more difficult for us to point you in the direction of some retailers that offer a card suitable for your system. Perhaps vamp or another Englander can help you there.

I dont think its that serious... a newer video card is all that system needs. I cant imagine that game being very power hungry in any way.

shaniarll, I personally think that if you want to do this quickly and easily, just go to walmart or a local PC store and ask them about a PCI video card for playing recent games. You wont get the best price, but you wont have to worry about buying from an online store you have never heard of.

Although if you dont mind shopping online heres what I would advise you get (assuming you live in the USA):
A Geforce FX 5200 128Mb (128bit Memory) PCI for $72
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-055&depa=1
This isnt a super powerfull card, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than what you have, and it will be sufficient for most games out now should you decide to play any more. And best of all its retail boxed and is at a very reliable store, so you dont have to worry about crappy warranties or broken parts.

Hope this helps :)

Guys judging by her system. I dont think she's looking for "ultimate" performance. Just Ensuring her games work. And Work well. I think Even a Geforce FX 5200 PCI would probably be enough.

Remember not everyone is interested in Stellar performance. Just a working Computer.

Anywho. Back on Topic. I suggest you pick up a Geforce FX 5200, Radeon 9000, or Radeon 9100 PCI Card, Be sure not to buy an "AGP" card. As from the sounds of it. It wont work in your Computer.

The system I recommended WASN'T a 'stellar performance' system. You should check out the requirements on the game she is trying to play.

I don't think a plain-Jane Athlon 1.3 ghz with 128mb of ram is going to cut it, I really don't.

What game was it again? I'm sure she needs a T&L system. And I agree with you that 512 Megs of ram will help. But the card will at least make the game run. Which it wont atm.

Let go of it man!!....... the TNT2 is useless now most modern games now NEED HARDWARE T&L and some of the newer games need Pixle shaders.

Since we are not sure if an AGP slot actually exists, maybe we could find out. If you open your computer case you will see a few white slots all lined up. Then towards the center of the motherboard you may see a brown slot of equal length to the white ones, but set more back than the white slots. That brown slot would be an AGP slot, which means you can purchase an AGP video card instead of PCI video card. AGP is much faster so if you have the brown slot, definetly buy an AGP video card. I've attached a photo of PCI slots with an AGP slot on the right side. On the left hand side is a very short brown slot, that is NOT AGP, it's something else you don't need.

Some good AGP choices for your PC would be:

Nvidia Geforce FX5700 non-ultra for $125us (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-071&depa=1)
ATI Radeon 9600XT for $151us (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-124&depa=1)
