I hope by late summer release they mean early NOW release, im gonna assume they are purposly overshooting that esimate so they dont make the same mistake again.

well.. dont know why but its seems that the Hl2 delays have nothing to do with "bad schedules" at all ,that the "release dates" have always been used for marketting purposes.. between ATI and Valve.
and not neccesarily means the actual shipping date.the leak add more evidence that suggest how far the progress was of the game.

just keep in mind that generally Publishers are the ones who knows the official date of shipping .they ship the game to the stores. and have communications with gaming stores.

and two of them say 9/1/2004

which is very strange, those 2 online stores usually vary by at least 2 weeks on release dates, so there might be something to 9/1/2004 date, but with valve ya just cant tell

what is sad is that many people bought radeons9600xt and Radeon9800xt just for Hl2.. and now there will be cards at least 2xtimes faster from ATI and NVIdia ,for the same price.

thats why when i upgrade.. until the game i want is out , and i see retail benchmarks i dont buy.

Actually a 9/1 date usually only means 4th quarter. At my local Gamestop, a LOT of later games have release dates like that (Halo 2, Half-life 2, Xbox Doom 3, Metroid Prime 2, STALKER, etc.). So the real date is still to be determined. But if it is released on 9/1 I wouldn't mind, since that's my birthday :D

But now that I think about it, that September 30th date would've been a nice ploy to get ATI to give them some extra cash. Maybe Valve saw that the game ran better on 9x00 cards, and said "oh we'll do a special deal with you and when we release our game on *September 30th* we'll promote your card with the game"? Well, it probably wasn't that severe, but it wouldn't suprise me if that had something to do with it.
