This is because it's been suggested that only 200 or so pieces might make the grade as a '6800 Ultra Extreme' with its 450MHz clock.

:screwy:

Uhhh....no.

Nobody - and I mean, NOBODY would launch a product with only 200 cores.

That's just ridiculous. And only 450mhz core? What's the point?!

Well I think what there speculation is leaning towards is the fact there are some 10,000 nv40 cores "at the moment" and only some 200 would qualify as a extreme model capable core. nv40 series are based on core quality so the theory there is just saying that there will not be very may cores that will meet the QA needed to pass the standards to be a extreme edition. What was the point of NV35 vs NV38 - pretty much the same difference between ultra and extreme - if any of this pans out...

It was not 200 2000 in the first batch from what I read. Noone has said that there isn“t more to come later.

However both ATI and nvidia do seem to have trouble producing their cards in a fair amount of numbers.

Its more like a ratio ;)

There will be also more then 2000 GF6800U's.

BTW, I want one, hurry up please!

500Mhz should be achievable and in higher numbers than those suggested,

I'm looking forward to my own 500Mhz 6800U :)

lol. I'm sure by the time nv45 "launches" you might get your hands on one :) What I don't understand is what's the point in advertising something that you can't mass produce? In the same way, what's to stop ati from handpicking 50 cards that can run at 600e and launch that? Absolutely pointless and a useless data point.

maybe from now on new products should meet a projected availability requirement before considered eligible to be compared in a review?

Would an extra 50-100 MHz even matter, considering its memory bandwidth limited :retard:

at $600 that better be a big piggy bank :lol2:
It does in some cases but i have noticed it can also be fillrate limited. When the X800 & 6800Ultra pair off that looks like it's down to bandwith.
