Although FF7 (PC version) is an old game, I just can't believe NVIDIA could do such a terrible thing like that.

ForceWare drivers (52.16~56.64) also cause some graphical glitches on FX series (5200, 5600, 5900xt).

With Detonator 4x.xx (43.45~45.33), ff7 works without any problem on my FX cards (5200, 5600, 5900xt).

Yeah the 6X.XX drivers mess up a lot of old games, I just hope the final drivers don't have these problems, because if I lose my compatibility with old games I lose one of the main reasons I bought a nVidia card.

I agree with you. I am pretty disapiointed in the 6x.00 Drivers, I have so far been completely unhappy with them.

Replace old ff7config1.00 with ff7config1.02, then FF7 PC will work in D3D mode. (You can find ff7config1.02 in Eidos' TNT patch)

Because nvidia's driver supports 8-bit paletted textures, there is no need to check "nvidia" in ff7config1.02. Besides, original FF7.exe also works well with nvidia's cards.

Set FSAA to 2x2 AA with RivaTuner, 2x2 AA is compatible with FF7 PC for most nvidia's cards (gf3, gf4ti, fx series).

you should try FF8 my GOD does the world map look UuuuuuggggllleEEEEEeee in accelerated mode.

i don't see the point in not playing it in soft mode though tbh, as perfomance isn't a problem on todays machines..

I just did what you said and it still wouldn't run. I have a GeforceFX 5700 Ultra. I thought Nvidia doesn't support 8-bit palletes in the FX series or higher.

According to Riva Tuner it does, but I have heard also from Pete The creator of the OpenGL plugin that Faster Palletized textures, However my FX 5900 Ultra has never had a problem Enabling this feature in Emulation.

Which Btw, 8 Bit Palletes will always benefit Nvidia cards with Emulation in mind.

Nvidia's driver (ex: Detonator 4x.xx and Forceware 5x.xx)already supports 8-bit paletted textures. Therefore, when you run ff7config1.02, Nvidia's videocard will pass all tests.

For WinXP users, it is also necessary to install Direct Show from FF7's install disc and apply FF7's AVI patch.

You can get the AVI patch(ff7betap1upsidedown.exe) from:
http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearch.jsp

Then get the CHOCOBO PATCH from:
http://www.qhimm.com/

If ff7 is not stable under WinXP, you can use compatibility mode.

Thanks it was the Direct Show patch that I was missing. I also downloaded anime vamp's 1.4 patch.

If you use Creative's Audigy series or Live!5.1, you will need the soundfont (http://home.so-net.net.tw/halohalo/ff7sf030913.rar) patch to enable choir effect when you fight Safer Sephiroth.

Another nice soundfont for FF7 PC:
