i sure am
we expected that x800xt will be clocked at 600mhz
but it ended up being clocked at 520 mhz
radeon x800xt has a fill rate of =16x520= 8320 megapixel
geforce 6800 ultra has fill rate =16x400=6400 megapixel
even with a core clock of 520mhz(80 mhz less than 600 mhz) , the x800xt has a higher fill rate
yet
it cant convincingly beat geforce 6800 ultra
and where it does manage to beat it,
the margin is 2 small,
a new driver release or a geforce 6800 extreme could easily destroy this margin
with its higher fill rate the x800xt should have convincingly beaten the geforce 6800 ultra,
but it did not happen
the radeon x800xt is able to beat the geforce 6800 ultra only when AA and AF are turned on.
in CALL OF DUTY , x800xt gets trampled.
DOOM 3 will be a repeat of the same scenario
this reminds me of when the radeon 8500 was released.
it had higher fill rate
it did beat geforce 6800 ultra in a few benchmarks
then nvidia released the detonator 4 drivers
and radeon 8500 ended up getting owned
and then nvidia increased the pain by releasing the geforce 3 ti-500 series
the geforce 3 ti-500 was clocked at 240 mhz and totally owned the radeon 8500 clocked at 275mhz
and by the time ATI released "working" drivers to boost radeon 8500 performance, it was too late,
the geforce 4 ti series was out.
well, this is my opinion,
and i m sure many will disagree
if you want to look at the benchmarks, that i am referring to LOOK HERE (http://home.no/sosclan/bilder/R420/)
ummm arent all of these game twimtbp games?? i think we should wait for beyond3d and other sites reviews before passing judgement .....

I wish that it performed a little better but in the end it doesn't bother me. I never planned on upgrading this generation as I just don't have the money and my 9700 Pro is still holding up quite well. In addition I really don't want a monstrous beast like the 6800 and the requisite power requirements that go along with it. This is something that has bothered me with NV since the GF4 series. Their cards are just plain too big! I hope NV learns to shrink their cards by the next generation and doesn't pull another NV3X...cause I am looking forward to upgrading then.

As long as you have a quality PSU (something with a strong rating on the +12v line) you should be able to run the 6800 all day long on less than what NVIDIA recommends. The high recommendation is likely geared towards Joe Consumer who would want to put this card into his eMachine. Enthusiasts know better.

Are they enabling OverDrive?

I realize that...but I still don't want to devote two molex connectors to it or have to buy a splitter. Like I said I don't plan on upgrading this round so it is pretty much a non-issue for me at this point in time.
NO WAY!! I've read a whole bunch of reviews now. It's Awesome!
Not disappointed in the sense that it's really fast and seems like a great card. The only disappointment would probably be that it didn't live up to some of the hype certain people were spreading. I was really starting to think nvidia might be in trouble so it ended up being much closer than I expected.
and both NV40 and r420 are cpu limited....gonan need a 4ghz athlon64 or prescott at 4.5ghz or somewhere there too

The 16 pipe 6800 GT and lower priced variants are supposedly single slot, single molex designs that don't eat up as much power as the Ultra variants.

Yep...there are many reasons to hold off upgrading till I can afford to redo all the major components of my system. About the only addition I plan on making to my system until next year is an LCD monitor. I am sick of lugging this CRT around...not to mention that the anti-glare coating is gone and it has a couple nasty scratches and gouges in it.
It seems to me that as of late nvidia's solutions seemed a little forced. The massive cooling and power requirements should say something. I wonder how high ati could clock their boards if they has something that crazy hooked up to it... or maybe a better question - how well nv hardware would do if they only went with a single slot cooling solution.

not really. their iq is decidely better even when it matches the 6800u. also it uses 1 molex and runs cooler
kinda disappointed in both nv40 and r420 but that wont stop me from buying one of them
how can one be dissapointed in cards that are 2x faster than current top end? What the hell else do you want?

Im not dissapointed at all,
The only people who got dissapointed were the ones who bought into the 15k 3dmark03 BS that was being spread, and it was just not true. But i knew ahead of time that it was not true and did not expect it.
I am still wowed by the benches, however not so much by the Pro's but I want an XT

we'll see 15k, we just need AMD and Intel to get their act's together, and quit with these tiny step's
in processor speed along with enormous prices.
Now is the time for them to get back into the game. I only want to see processors in 500MHZ increments. I want to see 4.0GHZ, 4.5GHZ and 5.0GHZ all under $500.00. Both cards are very impressive and deserve much more than a measly
FX53.
im not disapointed with the performance but i am disapointed with the features..... the 6800 is looking like a beast ....... mpeg 2 encode, decode hdtv ...... gawd the gt it looking sweet

im not disapointed at all. i have to admit i was drawn in by some folks statements about how the r420 was going to absolutly crush the nv40. my bad. nope not disapointed in both sides offerings - bitchin stuff.
I am alittle disapointed but have noticed that the cards are so powerful that the CPU's are infact holding them back hence the diffrence from AF & AA are enabled.
The 6800 ULTRA and X800XT is about the biggest jumps ever and people are disappointed??

I know I'm not disappointed by a card that will let me play all my games at 1280x1024. But if you are, that's your perogative (sp?).

More performance is always better and we have been waiting a long time for these cards. Very long, actually. I checked the receipt for my 9700Pro yesterday - bought it 10/26/02. So it's what, a year and a half old already? And it had been out for a while before then as well. Yes, we've been waiting a long time.
I'm satisfied with the performance gain the new cards represent. That said, it doesn't necessarily blow my hair back and if they had been slower than what they are I might be disappointed.
For now though I can't wait to get my X800XT. I am really hoping the June 25th ship date from compusa is a bunch of bologne. I'm hoping to get my card by June 5th with any luck. :p

I persoanlly think they are so close it is totally upto personal choice as to which one you get.
I will be getting a 6800 U (gainward GS) watercool and OC it.
Reason: MUCH simpler to water cool ALL of the memoery chips on the NV card then the ATi card as they are all on the one side of the card.
Performance Jump from what I have now: HUGE!! Ti4600 to 6800 U Watercooled......bout 4x faster! wOOt wOOt
Ti4600 vs 6800 U (6800 on iright) :bash:
