View Full Version : will there be an r420 extreme ? will r423 be 600 mhz core?

the maximum overclock that the guys at driverheaven could do is 555mhz for the core

this was without any modding or bios adjustments...

so there is some headroom left.
also, sapphire will release the r420 clocked at higher speeds.

all points to this,
there may be an extreme edition
ATI's AIB partners(some of them) will use higher core clock speeds
r423 will be competing against nv45,
r423 will be 600 mhz.

But then hardocp could hardly overclock the XT at all.

I guess it´s as always you have to be lucky with the chip you get.

atis yields arent good right now, especially not with as many as 16 pipes going on. give them a respin or an a2 stepping and we could be seeing perhaps 550+ clocks for the pci-e verson

i think he also mention the the card got real hot to the touch

540Mhz looks like it would be a good overclock on air at present ....

540MHz is crap. id like closer to 600MHz

i believe anything is possible. hell if gainward can pull off getting 550 out of the nv40 i dont see why it cant happen with r420. im sure we will still some crazy stuff to come.

Of course ATI could deliver R420 cores with higher GPU clocks. Probably more than nVidia can deliver their 6850. But why would they want to? I highly doubt they would earn any money from it and it may require them to build another NV40 like cooler...

someone that works with ati was talking of 550MHz and even 600MHz engineering samples but ati decided 520MHz was more than enough to compete without needing 2 molexes and lots of heat. I bet they are saving the 550+ cores for the pci-e verson

don't forget ABIT is an ATI AIB now.

New Graphics Performance Records Set With ATI's RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition Visual Processing Unit

Friday May 7, 6:00 am ET

Record scores include 15,738 in Futuremark's 3DMark2003 benchmark, shattering the previous record by over 5000 points

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2004-- ATI Technologies (NASDAQ:ATYT - News; TSX:ATY - News) demonstrated the awesome graphics power of the RADEON(TM) X800 XT Platinum Edition visual processing unit (VPU) by setting new graphics speed records(i) in a variety of games and industry-leading graphics benchmarks. The event took place at System Builders' Summit in Barcelona.
Notably, a new world record score of 15,738 was set in Futuremark's 3DMark2003 graphics benchmark, easily breaking the previous score of 10,008, which was also set using ATI graphics technology.

The record score of 15,738 in 3DMark2003 was set using the default screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels with 32-bit color depth, as required by Futuremark for eligibility in Futuremark's Hall of Fame. A record score of 33,484 was also set in Futuremark's popular 3DMark2001 benchmark at the same resolution.

"The RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition is clearly the weapon of choice for setting graphics speed records," said graphics enthusiast Sami Makinen, who designed, assembled and operated the PC used to set the record graphics scores. "ATI truly delivers monster performance with their latest generation of graphics technology."

Scores in UT2004 (147 fps) and Tomb Raider (76 fps) were posted using the most demanding image quality settings commonly used by the gaming community: 1600x1200 pixels with 32-bit color depth using 4X anti-aliasing and 8X anisotropic filtering.

"Record scores in some of the world's most visually advanced games at the highest image quality settings is proof that with ATI's RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition, users no longer need to sacrifice speed to get impeccable image quality," said Peter Edinger, Vice President, ATI Europe, Middle East and Africa.

All applications were run on a system featuring an overclocked RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition running at 715 MHz engine clocks and 639 MHz memory clocks, an overclocked Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor, 1 GB of DDR SDRAM, a 40 GB IDE hard drive, proprietary cooling technology, and CATALYST drivers that conform to the Futuremark specification for posting Hall of Fame benchmark scores.

Also this year at Systems Builders' Summit, ATI took home three prestigious awards including Best Presentation, Best Hardware and Best Vendor."

Hand and cherry picked GPU, PCB board with more layers, volt modded, LN2.

Seriously, no retail cards will ever hit that kind of speeds with air cooling.

Yeah but that is with watercooling not air :D

But the R420 is with Ice cooling which is even cooler than water cooling.

Yeah and am not saying you are going to get 700Mhz out of it more like 600MHz or so.

pretty sweet. wish i had a system like that! i wanna ice cool a ue when i get one. :wonder:

Yeah a 6800UE $600 + dry ice cooling expensive thing and risky for expensive hardware :D

actually i just won a rather large settlement. i doubt if i'll spend the money that foolishly, but im damned near tempted :) . im sure i'll be reasonable. go with some water cooling most definetly.

seeing the 9800xt overclocks more than 50% with a casade, I do not see why we wont see similar overclocks with the x800pro and x800xt with core clocks of 750 or even 800MHz
