Seems like the X800XT edges out a victory but I think I'm still going for a 6800.
The 6800 is a totally new design and I think drivers will improve a lot, even making FarCry look "normal".

Any one know where the first 6800 are going?

Well it´s hard to go wrong with two so great cards ;)

Very true...as I said in another post...upgrading a CPU would probably be a good idea too but..there are no CPUs that can handle these behemoths. Most ppl reviewed them on maybe AthlonFX, Athlon64 or speedy Prescots or Northwoods. man....gotta love this!

seems as if the Ultra "extreme" has closed some previous gaps we saw last night, X800XT doesn't have as much of a lead, it's gonig to be hard to declare a winner here...

Wait till www.xtremesystems.org get hold of these babies ;)

Tom Holk has a 3400Mhz FX53 waiting for one :)

You don't have too many cpu limitations when you have a 3400Mhz AMD64 ;)

Looks like nvidia have gone for GT and U-Extreme to try and surround the XT800XT PE .. the GT looks a very good card.

not if you look at high resolution benchmarks with high AA/AF settings (the whole point of high-end cards), then the 6800 dies:

X800 more than twice as fast in Call of Duty, SS2, X2, 6 times faster in UT2003

note that they are not testing the new 6800 "extreme" nor are the using the new drivers...go read more reviews on the "extreme"

I really am interested in seeing how many of these they can provide, and how many they will actually sell. Seems ATI and Nivida will do just about anything to wear that crown whether they can only provide review samples or not... :lame: :bash:

because
1. the new drivers have massive performance-enhancing bugs.
2. they only just announced the extreme - it's just an overclock because they got beat. plus if it's more expensive than the non-extreme, then it loses to X800 on price at least. FWIW Anand doesn't think the "extreme" will mean anything.

nvidia has lost this round. not as much as R300/NV3x, but they *have* lost.

yes, it seems silly... although, I'm buying one either way... I can't decide, maybe I'll just get both. :)

Your comparing 8x ms/ss to 6x pure ms...

not an apples to apples comparison in the least dave, but I understand that wouldn't fit into the agenda for your crusade.

Gotta love competition, ATi looks to be a little faster. The 6850 Extreme does close the gap and make it a very close race, but I just hope that the extreme does not cost more than $499 as that is already borderline too expensive. I hope that the extreme instead pushes down the price of the 6800 Ultra. I love all the last minute tweaking that has gone on by both ATi and nVidia, as we the consumer really benefit, I just hope we benefit pricewise as well.

dave that "high resolution " is 1024x768.

Are you living in 1992 ?

What you actually meant to say is x8AA ..but we all know that.

I suggest 1600x1200 4xAA and it does not die

ok, well, your arguing with my statement that the 6800ultra "extreme" closes the gap?

Ati has only a 10% lead in farcry at best, all the other titles 6800extreme is ahead or on par, or 5fms slower.

massive performance enhancing bugs? is that REALLY the conlcusion you've come up with? why not just come out and say Nvidia is cheating on their new drivers?

Wheres this Nvidia "killer" evey ati fanboy was talking about? where are the 60fps inside and 80fps outside 1600x1200 full AA on farcry Jakup was talking about?

truth is it's not here, X800XT hardly comes close to beating 6800ultra extreme, nor does the extreme beat X800XT. Stop hatin on nvidia dude!

and I'm sorry if anand doesn't think it wil mean anything because it already does, it means extra frames in each title and the new becnhmarks show that.

if you can read then it's 1280x1024 actually. plus the trend is clear - 6800U dies at higher resolutions - you think at 1600x1200 it would magically go up?

cut it out dave

You might want to add that it dies at high resolutions with 8xs enabled, but you havent and wont for obvious reasons

seems to me that both cards are neck to neck, the only winner here is US, the consumers.

I don't really like the Hexus.net review at all.

I'ts seems to prey on the Nvidia's weaknesses and not much of it's strengths....

16xAF is fine for Nvidia, but 8X AA is a very performance hungry mode, since there is Super Sample AntiAliasing going on as well As Multi Sample.

While ATI is using a pure Multi Sample mode.

Also that guy couldn't test the 16x12 becuz he has a LCD that can only display up to 12x10 :lame:

From reading the reviews today I'm going with the cheaper X800Pro
I only use 1024 res with AA/AF so a overclocked X800Pro will serve me well. :D

that's how it looks to me too - I got a 9500pro because it was good performance and great value, X800pro seems like the new 9500pro
