according to anandtech, tomshardware, and every other review ive read. I was hoping nvidia would get back on top but cheating on drivers wasnt enough. I guess it all depends on pricing now but i may have to get an ati (mag)

What did ATI win? And what is the point of this post?

Obviously some people are so blinded by IHV fanboyism that they don't realize that NV and ATI each respectively take the lead in different benchmarks, depending on what game is benched.

I haven't had a chance to read all the reviews. Which reviews stated that NVIDIA was cheating?

I don't think any of the reviews said that NV was cheating. There was a picture that appeared at B3D where someone apparently renamed FarCry.exe and tested the leaked 61.11 beta Forcewares and noticed that framerates went down a bit on the NV40. However, there were no tests done with other NV and ATI graphics cards, and no IQ tests done as far as I know. I am guessing that somehow the NV40 was being recognized as general DirectX 9.0 hardware.

The graphics chip companies sound more and more like Intel/AMD wars every day...

Wow, you read a forum somewhere and somone said nvidia was cheating on their new drivers? LOL,

also, make sure you look for reviews that
1. use new drivers
2. are testing the 6800ultra Extreme

like this one

it's gonig to be quite difficult to declare a winner this time, it's going to be close, and I love it!

The Ultra Extreme costs beyong $500!!!!

is that confirmed? I was hoping it would drive the costs of the normal 6800u down to 400,

you guys were right about cheating i guess they just tweaked the drivers. Where can i get prices on these cards thx

well all the extrem is is a higher clocked Ultra, so, it's really not costing them more to make it, is it?

I just read on B3D about some german site renaming the farcry.exe to fartcry.exe and the 6800u taking a nose dive in performance. Gonna check into that some more.

No but it would cost them money to sell at a lower price point for essentially the same part.

LMAO, so what, now the 6800 is slower than a 9800xt? I SERIOUSLY doubt the validity of that benchmark, so far I've seen the 6800 come in anywhere from below the 9800 to above the x800XT in Farcry. God, I give up, every single reviewer out there must be a total moron. I mean seriously, they ALL contridict eachother and benchmarks are all over the place in performance. I don't even know what's real anymore. Funny thing is, here's a benchmark with the EXACT same settings in Farcry, and look at the results!

http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/7/0,1311,i=75075,00.gif

And umm, going by most REAL benchmarks out there, the 6800 puts up a damn good fight. In fact, it looks like more than a match for the x800pro, and is often able to come very close to (and sometimes beating) the x800XT Platnum Edition. In the end the real winner will be the one that can bring the fastest card for the least amount of money, and so far it looks like the winner in that arena may be Nvidia (if current rumors of pricing are correct). Perhaps you should rephrase the title, since it's nothing but a blatent lie until we can be sure of pricing on these cards.

Also, if you're going to use the "cheating drivers" argument
"In the second image above we do see some image quality differences though. Notice that the GeForce 6800Ultra is rendering the scene with shadows falling on the ground and objects. All three Radeon cards are not rendering these shadows in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow."
Now if the reverse was true, I'm sure EVERYONE would be clammering over how Nvidia is "cheating" in Pandora Tomarrow, rather than flagging it as a driver bug.

Edit: heh, beaten to the "alternate" Farcry benchmark :p

That´s only natural since the NV40 uses the same mode as the NV3X series to gain performance. So it´s not like it´s an unknown new cheat or something.

That's ok, Nvidia got it's buttkicked again. We have the Nv50 to think about now!!! Nvidia will be back! Don't think they are out of the graphics card buisness yet!

In FarCry, the NV3x gains performance by having some PS 2.0 shaders replaced with PS 1.1 shaders, because it's PS 2.0 speed is extremely low. The NV40 doesn't suffer from low PS 2.0 speed. In fact, in some cases, apparently the NV40's PS 2.0 speed is higher than it's PS 1.1 speed.
