View Full Version : Democrats vs. Republicans
Which one do you prefer ? If you are outside US, what party generally is better for your country ?If you are inside US, which one has a better policy in relation to your way of life ?
EDIT:
I restarted this thread because I thought 2 options were missing. Excuse me if I bothered you.

They're both right on some points, but they're both run entirely by money, which would come from large corporations, meaning neither one can really be trusted to do the right thing all the time.
Oh well.

I voted "Other". Yep, thats right. As long as both work together, and quick bickering, our mainly 2 party system works like a finely tuned machine. I see myself as a conservative moderate now. On some points I lean to the right, and on many I lean to the left. If one is stuck on one side, then I find it hard to beleive that they are looking at the whole picture. Not one side can be entirely correct, so in order to get the best possible product, you have to balance both sides and bargain or figure a compromise.
I'd go libertarian first, but they have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. After that its the Republicans-more of their positions {gun rights, defense} are attuned to my own.
As for the Democrats, decades ago they used to be for the working people but no longer-they took a sad sharp turn to the left. Mayhaps they should be called the Socialist Party.

I'm definately a democrat, although I really don't like the idea that the dems decided to let the Iraq bill pass. I guess maybe they're hoping Bush will mess up and then they can say they tried to stop it or something.

I agree with sbp. Libertarian is the way for me. Since they fall WAY behind the other parties in terms of populatity, I'd have to ring in Democrat.

Neither....it's either Dem or Rep...third parties are useless...third parties only get in when the position in question is a joke. This last election, i was gonna vote for whatever his name is (rich guy kinda eccentric forget his name) but then decided not to vote for the scumbag when he decided to back Bush....
Way I look at it...you either vote Dem or Rep or not at all.
kinda sucks but that's the way the corpses twitch.

from my point of view dems and reps suck equally. if i was a yank id vote for nader ...
Hmm, I wasn't very specific as I wanted :) ... I am trying to know is what party you guys supported most of the time until now, and what party share more of your ideas, and not specificaly on who you would vote in a ceirtain election.
I would really apreciate if the foreings from europe, south america told what you think about them, what party favors your country most of the times.

I see my vote as a holy grail and neither Bush or Gore were worthy. I voted for Nader in 2000 because he told the truth and since the majority of Americans can't handle the truth and would rather be BSed by Democrats & Republicans (e.g. more of the same), no wonder he lost. :p :p :p ;)
After what happened in Florida, I don't know for certain if I'll ever vote again as my mentality has drastically changed. The other day, some of those goons from Posthumous's campaign stopped by the house just after I ran off some Jehovah's Witnesses. The JWs put me in a outright foul mood and when those elections freaks brought their circus to me, I went off!
"Hello! I'm yada-yada on behalf of Mr. Posthumous who is running for Govern-"
"Get off my porch before I blow you off it! And tell your friend Jenny Grandholm that the same goes for her and her lackeys, too!!
"S-Sir, we're sorry, but Ms. Granholm isn't our friend. She's our competition and-"
"No, your only competition RIGHT NOW is with me and this here Mossberg. Git! My vote doesn't count! If you're not out of here in 10 seconds, there's a good chance my bullets might!"
I'll give them credit - they left faster than the Jehovah's Witnesses did. Speaking of them....HO-HO, MAN did they set me off this time! They said to my neices and nephews (I overheard them through the patio) that, "if you don't get saved a sniper would come and get you!"
I can't repeat what I said to them here because I said SO MUCH that I can't remember it (that's how HOT I was) and even if I could, you'd just get tons of asterisks! I went totally nuclear on them...
Nothing against JWs as I'm sure somewhere there are some decent ones...but for some reason God keeps sending me the clowns of the lot! :(

I'm definitely conservative. I decided this based on a series of questions that I asked myself, and you should as well no matter how you stand.
Which party is more likely to raise my taxes?
Which party is more likely to cut current taxes?
Which party is for a strong national defense?
Which party is for more control by the states?
Which party is more likely to increase the size of government?
Which party is more likely to decrease the size of government?
Which party is more likely to increase entitlement programs?
Which party is more likely to align itself with traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs?
Which party is more likely to support business growth and technology improvements?
Which party is more likely to support turnover and term limits among elected officials?
Which party is more likely to align itself with the environmental factions?
Which party is more likely to allow me to control the direction of my retirement program and money?
Which party is more likely to be influenced away from the mainstream views by minority and ethnic factions?
Having answered all of these to myself, I still vote for the CANDIDATE instead of the PARTY. But it is clear to me that my personal belief structure more closely aligns itself with the Republican party.

I'm impressed with the voting results of this thread so far!
We're essentially a melting pot and that what makes this country great.
Oh, if only our elected officials were as non-partisan as us! :D

in one an individual can in theory make a difference, the other is a big parent figure which will not change with time... even if that change is only a complete institution replacement
