Something has been in the back of my head since I saw the reviews for the 6800gt. Sinlge slot, single molex connector, 300watt psu. Now at a review site (can't remember which one) the gt was clocked up to 425mhz. Why if it can go that high does the 6800ultra have such beefy requirements?

good question. possibly is has a lower voltage on the core? im sure there are some technically sound people on this board that could answer that.

The 6800 Ultra and Ultra variants need the extra molex connector and extra power requirements in order to support even higher clock speeds than what the overclocked GT is able to obtain. Even though the standard core clock is 400Mhz, NV still needs to make sure that the card will hold up at significantly higher clocked frequencies. These are the enthusiast boards for the hardcore gamers, so I'd imagine that they are just making sure that the hardware will hold up when really pushed to the extreme, so to speak.
