i know that the 5950 is just a sped up 5900, but why the differnt chip name? i know this is a dumb question, but the web is awash with 6800 news, so nv35 and nv38's are hard to some by in the way of facts

All I really know is the 5950 usually uses laxer mem timings and higher Voltages, So theoretically clocks higher, I dunno.

so in the chip itself.. inside in the making of it.. there is no differnce?

The only difference that I can tell is Nvidia disabled the Flicker fix for these cards, So they can run Cooler from the looks of it. I recently flashed my 5900XT to to a 5950 475/950 and the temps are way way cooler. So thats the only explanation I can think of.

I don't think so, just frequency bumps as far as I know. Similar to what ATI did.

Works for some. I had noise issues when scrolling, A Kinda flicker, So i have to use a 5900 Bios or I'll flicker like crazy.
