View Full Version : Half Life 2 hands on at IGN

edit- gist of it is that it plays and looks great and will be worth the wait. Also modding tools will be available to some maybe as soon as E3 for mods to be available soon after the game is available. Players will also be able to play there own MP.3 songs in game. And the exact date of release/shipping will be anounced in the coming days during E3 according to the insider video from IGN.

The game just reached alpha a few weeks ago and is content complete. Even though we only got to play for 30 minutes, it's fully playable from start to finish at this point, and Doug tells us that Valve is at the tweaking and polishing stage. I have no doubt Half-Life 2 will be worth the wait, whether that be (hopefully) this summer or not.

gamespot also has one up.

I dont care how long it takes, it gives me time to upgrade :)

As long as the end product rocks I'm happy.

Hmm, interesting that they're planning on releasing the rest of the mod tools soon, Softimage EXP for HL2 was a nice start and I hope they support the mod community as well as they did in HL1 (which certainly looks to be the case). I'm very interested that the game has already reached "content complete" stage, looks like now all they have to do is iron out bugs and polish the game and it's ready for release. Funny that HL2 recieved the same type of delay as HL1 did, and for similar reasons. Guess history really does repeat itself.

I also got my PCGamer in the mail today.. but WTF!?

It says 6 new Half Life 2 videos on the free DVD almost covering the entire front, and they left them off the DVD..

Maybe it's a double-sided DVD? Try again and report.

Interesting that DOOM III has taken as long but since they never announced a firm release date they don't get slated 1/10th as much. The gaming community hates being messed with.
