November 18-22. Nvidia will officially announce it at Comdex 2002. This has been discussed plenty of times already. Please use the search feature. Thanks :)

Volt...

I tried to PM you but your box is full.....

(rest of message edited out)

Thanks for re-opening, Volt! For those who have not figured out the "purpose" of this thread...I'll give it about a day for responses. All will be clear afterward. ;)

Here you go Sir. I wouldn't have closed it if you did include those other things you wanted to know ;)

Hmm, amusing. I'd say it's a good idea to start a thread on this.

I'd say end november ( review samples ) . I wouldn't quite say "arrive" is when i get to buy it, but i really need much info about it to say it arrived. And for that, well, i need reviews.

So for me, "arrives" is when reviews can actually be read about the product OR that it can be bought in stores ( if there was no review first - but that's not likely, hehe )

Assuming they first-pass the silicon, how long from the die coming back to production ramp if the PCBs are ready and waiting? A month? I realise that the chances of them nailing it first time are pretty slim, but it is possible. I'm sure the days of multiple respins are gone.

I have reason to believe that something came back from the fab this weekend and I suppose it might have been the first rev of the NV30 ASIC. Initially I was thinking more along the lines of first respin (given the rumoured launch date), but taking into account the estimated tape-out timeframe and the fact that we've heard nothing of working samples thus far, I'm more inclined to believe that this is the very earliest silicon.

purpose, this thread has a purpose?

and what would that be

Paper Launch at Comdex. However when will we see reviews and when can people buy it? Not sure. Given that nV sometimes in the past has gotten their part very soon after its public announcement (with only GF3 being delayed) there is still a good chance that a few NV30s will be out before xMas. However its a better chance that video card companies will not have time to ramp up for the bulk of the xmas buying season :(

Hehee.....my one-line post makes the front page of NVNews? Has the lack of NV30 really made you that desparate? ;)

Watch out for Joe, he can be pretty tricky ;)

Seriously, "he" is not tricky at all...he's terribly predictable and transparent. ;)

So I may have a new machine by Christmas, if the nforce 2 boards ever surface, but I'll be playing the latest games on the first gen Geforce 2 MX card that sits in my p2-450. :(

Warp2Search.net has some speculations from the German "Chip" magazine on the NV30 here:

I expect the first short demo may happen during the Iron conference, behind closed doors for privileged developers. The official annoucement will be at Comdex and a limited supply of top end NV30s will be available over the Christmas period.

DirectX9 will also be launched, so nVidia will combine this with the first DX9 demos and show those 4x faster shaders off to the public.

ATi will respond with a the R350 (possibly using DDRII) which will be a bug fixed R300 which will work in more than the 40% of machines it currently does. And ATis RMA troubles will be over. As if...

Benchmarks will show the R300 and NV30 to be roughly on par in DX8 apps but with the NV30 leading in DX9 and OGL.

The lack of the NV30 hasn't caused me to despair (yet), but since most of the hype has been played out over the past few months, there's not much more to discuss at this point. Even Beyond3D's discussion on the NV30 has simmered down. Although I will admit that having Derek Smart show up was a sight to behold :)

One thing that's keeping me sane are follow-up articles on the nForce2. I should have a piece on Warcraft 3 up this evening.

Indeed. So far, so good it seems!

Good luck keeping sane. ;) I really am waiting for NV30 with high anticipation myself. Here's to hoping it one-ups R-300. The best thing for consumers is for ATI and nVidia to keep one-upping each other in a fierce competitive battle. ;)

On page 4, you'll see a statement that was made by NVIDIA's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang:

"We're very confident that NV30 (Nvidia's next-generation chip) will be available for you this Christmas season."

I tend to believe that industry analysts and investors are holding NVIDIA to that statement.

Arrive ?
Meaning- able to purchase or beta boards working?
Either way I don't think we'll be able to purchase 'til past Christmas. By that time ATI will probably be half-way through their next product development. Things could get pretty tricky trying to decide which to buy if product cycles for both competitors is offset by ~3 months.
Goes like this- ATI launches card, NV paper launches next card.
Then 3 months later NV launches new card while ATI paper launches specs of next card.
Could get pretty interesting.

Um is DOOM III DX9? sorry off topic but I was just thinking who cares if nv30 is faster in dx9 games and on par with r300 in dx8?

No, Doom3 is pure OpenGL.

Hmmm... so maybe that reporter from SFGate.com gets an nv30 by X-mas. :D Those CEO's can be slippery these days, eh?

I guess if it has taped out then it is technically available already. Now where'd I leave my grappling hook and that cat-burgular outfit?

I have a feeling everyone will be able to get a NV30 based card by Christmas. Who knows? :p it would have to be out before 2003 to be a worthy contender in the product cycles between ATI and nvidia.

You can read a translation i did of what some german site estimated the NV30 will be able to do at EB, here (http://www.elitebastards.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=410).

looks like to me, the chip will be more optimizations and improvements than just raw performance parts as before.

more memory bandwidth will mean nvidia will have a super duper pexil machine in my estimation.

im also afraid to see what the thing will cost.

$400.

That's what it says in their CG Shader competition blurb anyway.
