Kernel 2.6.6+ and NF7-S crashing

Anyone gotten 2.6.6 or 2.6.7-rc1 to run on an Abit NF7-S V1.1 ? I can compile and boot (generally) but the system hard locks/hangs 3 sec - 5 minutes in.

I have 2.6.6-rc2 running just fine. Runs for weeks on end with no problems but I can't get 2.6.6 or 2.6.7-rc1 to run. With or without Nvidia graphics driver.

I originally converted my 2.6.6-rc2 config and have also started with a fresh config. No joy.

I've updated the bios to the nf7-25 - no change.

I've booted with acpi_skip_timer_override, pci=noacpi, noapic, nolapic, vdso=0, acpi=off idle=C1halt and it still crashes. Have compiled excluding ACPI and it crashes. I've also used various combinations of the above switches with the same result.

All builds with 8Kstack and no regparm.

Fedora Core 1 base with updates and straight kernel.org 2.6.6 & 2.6.7-rc1 code.

Any ideas or am I just going to have to live with 2.6.6-rc2 on this box? (Since it runs well - not a bad option but ...)

check your dmesg and see what it says... it may provide some clues

btw, i heard something about the fedora kernel having trouble with a certain set of people, but i don't remember what group it was -- you may fall under this category (but i don't know)

No messages in the logs or dmesg related info on why it "hangs/crashes". I am using the kernel.org kernel, not Fedora's.

I had the same problem with 2.6.6 on NF7 as well. I switched back to 2.6.5 for the time being, which works perfectly. I'm running Gentoo Linux and using the sources from kernel.org

I thought it was just me..... maybe I'll turn on debug in the kernel hoping it will give some indication as to what is happening.
I hate it when it hangs and there is nothing in the logs to help debug the issue.

I have an nf7-s as well and haven't had good luck with 2.6.6. I'm sticking with 2.6.5 but that won't fix anything. Have you tried disabling cpu disconnect in the bios?

I went and disabled the cpu disconnect in the bios - still no joy.

IS there anyone in the crowd who has 2.6.6 or 2.6.7-rc? running on a NF7-S motherboard who would post an attachment of their kernel config?

Try as I might - I cannot get 2.6.6 (from Fedora or kernel.org) to do much more than boot and then hang. (Same for 2.6.7 series too)

Thanks - I figure it must be some setting I've used in the kernel and am looking for something to compare too.

Never mind - it is an Nforce2 kernel bug my motherboard sees. It is related to the C1halt fix put in the kernel in ~2.6.6-rc3. So, no kernel after that worked for me ........

There is a patch in the kernel mailing list that may help others with a similar problem and seems to work for 2.6.6, 2.6.7-rc1 and 2.6.7-rc2 (but I had other issues with 2.6.6 and 2.6.7-rc2 that have me running 2.6.7-rc1) http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0406.0/0705.html

Only have a few hours on the patch but thats a few hours longer than I had without it ;-)
