well i sure not voltmodded cause my soldeering skills r 35% of urs :)

it is stock and i also am very suprised about this particular card
its an weird thing to see my clocks and get such **** scores.........whatever happens to my card i dont care i have an spare gf4ti4200 (wich i good enough to run each game we have today) ......so that i dont mind

alll just hobby too me.....

don't worry about it, even if it is a fault, it is a fault in the right direction ? A GPU volts of 1.55 is not too high, in fact its about right for 500+ speeds ! You just have to watch the temps if overclocking high, because heatsinking on a 5900xt card is not that good ? Which means it will always have overtemping/throttling issues, unless you can better cool it !!

nah doesnt seem to be driver related. Its perfectly happy with Gainward bios, i just need to mod it to 500/950 or so.

I only get throttle down at speeds over 500core on my card, it pauses everything then resumes after a sec. I assume this is throttling?>

well at least it is important that you have eliminated drivers a part of problem ? And nothing wrong with 500/950 if it is very stable with your setup !

By the way, what do you have your mobo AGP aperture and volts set at ?? And maybe a slight longshot, but are your mobo AGP device drivers up to date in supporting a 5950u spec card ? Being that a 5950u spec is quite new !

your pausing and resuming for second or so sounds like throttling, however why don't you check using the Rivatuner Hardware monitor ?? It will show when temps and speed changes happened in real time !

Havent been using rivatuner anymore. My agp is set @ 1.55 but ive had it up to 1.65 with no change. Im running a 256mb AGP aperature. My KV-7 is humming along at 11x210 Latest BIOS, latest AGP driver, AGP 8x with fastwrites enabled, agp 1ws read and write. The board has really good AGP calibration being the KT600 chipset. ALL in all the Board runs like dream! Its very stable and very fast. I think i just got a moderate clocking 5900 is all. Really to have made it to 500 core im not disappointed at all. Id just like to be able to overclock without losing my temp monitor. Perhaps rivatuner's hardware monitor would fix that, hmm. Maybe ill try that again, used to be my fav.

if you couldn't overclock to 500+ with GPU volts of 1.55, then your GPU would definately be suspect ? If left at the 1.65v level, there would have been better GPU stability as long as your cards heatsinking could keep control of temps ? Its mainly overtemping that is the major problem with high overclocks on anything but a real 5950u !

the GPU temp sensor is part of the GPU chip, so it is probably somehow disconnecting or inhibiting itself when GPU temp goes above a certain threshold ? It may also just be the connection from the chip to the PCB that is being affected by temp ? Since Rivatuner may identify what temp it is happening at, all you have to do is somehow stay below that temp ??

what bios's were you trying to download ?

and which website were your finding problems with ? My modded bios's are held on more than one website !

Hi Jimmor,

I'm again here to ask you something :) . I have an MSI FX 5600 256MB & It is perfectly stable at 400/575. I look into the bios table but it is quite different than FX 59xx Series. Can you tell me how can I mod this bios with 400/575 clock? Also if u want to take a look at the bios or if u can mod it for me, please give me your mail address or mail me at t494c4f4b@hotmail.com, i'll send you the bios.

Thanks Jimmor. Waiting for your reply.

Hi! I'm back again!

My problem still exists, though I installed a Vantech PCI Fan Card to the neighboring slot and added and old AT PSU to the system (it supplies my hdd & fans).
I try to explain it more precisely:
- I set core clock to 425MHz (PowerStrip)
- run Aquamark3
- after about 2 seconds (sometimes longer/shorter) it locks up for a while
- then goes on but reasonably slower
I do not really understand why this happens, because there is too little time for the chip to get hot (2 secs - and it's rather cool - pci fan card cools very well).
So PSU and cooling is ok. May the built-in thermal sensor be set to very low temp treshold? (there is no hw-monitoring on my chip, so I cannot see actual temps)

Hello fazi1985 :

Lets see if I can help :)

First: You can not have two different power supplies for one computer. [ Unless you have the negatives of each power supply tied together ]

Give me some background on the computer set up. Do not leave anything out ex. Windows version, last video card, motherboard, age of computer - anything and everythimg. The more info, the better.

Ok, I try to write everything.

- conf.: Asus P4P8X - P4 2.66/533noHT 2*512/333 DDR dual ch Inno3D 5900XT (Sapph 9600Pro before) Seagate Barracuda SATA 150 120GB
WinXP Pro Sp1 + some downloaded updates

Vga is 1 month old, the rest are 6.
I think that's all!

2 PSU-combo worked fine. 200W AT PSU supllied my hdd and fans, 300W ATX PSU supplied the rest of the system (mobo, vga, cpu, ...).

I'm sorry but No!!! You can not have two different power supplies!!! The power throughout the computer MUST; MUST; MUST; have a common negative. It is wrong any other way. If you tie the negatives together, this would be correct but not recommended.

I would start by buying a new power supply. A P4 and a 5900 XT take a lot of power. The 300 watt power supply would not be enough power even with a system stripped down to only the Video card, CPU and one Hard Drive.

Fahim, A cursory look at the bios you sent has identified various speed profile tables ranging from 250 to 500MHz !

If you can tell me the original GPU and memory 2D, 3D and/or throttling speeds for your card, and any other info you can think of, it will allow proper identification of the found tables ??

jimmor
06-25-04, 04:09 AM
Fahim, You are right that the FX5600 bios speed tables are not same as that of FX59xx types. However there are definately very similar three tables, ie 2D, Throttling and 3D ?

I have mailed you m564575.rom, which is your MSI FX5600 bios modified to set stock speeds at 300/400/575. But, for memory speed, I have only set 3D mode to 575. The changes however can only be verified through testing with a FX5600 card. So try it and let me know the outcome ?

Also, if I am reading the speed tables properly, it appears that memory
speed is not same for 2D, Throttling and 3D modes. Could you verify this
using the Rivatuner Hardware Monitor ?

Hi Jimmor,

My MSI NBOX FX5900 Ultra has two large cooper heat sinks as well as two fans so it should be pretty safe to mod it to 5950 specs ?

Here are my video card pictures:

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/msi_fx5900u/2.html
(the green card is the FX5900Ultra reference board and my MSI NOX is with RED PCB)

I found The MSI5950u bios is available from Mavke website, As you mentioned earlier in this thread

http://www.mvktech.net/download.php?list.26

The "MSI FX5900 Ultra 256MB - Rev 01 - 4.35.20.22.00" matches my bios Revision...now Mavke has two FX5950Ultra bioses on his site Rev 1 and Rev 2. Perhaps Rev 2. might be the way to go assuming it supports VIVO, which I really need. Though I did notice that my MSI 5900 Ultra bios size file doesn't matches the size of MSI 5950 Ultra, they are both very close but not exactly the same, wouldn't that be an issue ?

Sorrry for asking this stupid question, but what software would I need to change the bios on my MSI FX5900 Ultra ? I would like to do simple swap of MSI 5900 Ultra to MSI FX5950Utrla Rev 2 (bios found on Mavke's site), no additional custom changes...

Well I just finished flashing my MS NBOX FX5900 Ultra to 5950 Ultra using MSI 5950 Ultra bios Rev 2, wow that was easy! I used nVFlash4.41 version. I reinstalled FW 56.72 (just in case) and I have applied cool bits 2. Checked speeds all seems ok (475/950), what I noticed though is that my GPU temperatures (in idle) actually went down a bit:

MSI NBOX FX5900 Ultra original bios:

GPU core temperature: 40C
Ambiet temperature: 32C

With the new MSI Fx5950 Ultra Rev. 2 bios:

GPU core temperature: 35C
Ambiet temperature: 30C

Now I have to do some testing including VIVO support...

So far so good :)

there should never be any problems with flashing a 5900nu or 5900u to a 5950u, as the only real diff is a 5950u uses 2.0ns memory and the others use slightly slower 2.2ns ! and none have any prob's with 5950u speeds !

for flashing purposes, all bios files are based on same 64k size; just come in diff size files because of diff's in functionality etc that diff manufacturers program into software ! Not important for your purposes, other than as you say, a need to ensure that VIVO etc is supported !

of course it was easy, which is why so many of us do it !

and the slight tempdrop is normal after flashing with a 5950u bios ! However to always measure temps/speeds properly, use rivatuner's real time hardware monitor, where you will find that your new flashed card will probably peak around 70+c when under load of gaming etc !

my MSI 5900XT runs perfectly @ 480/880 now. But my friends same card can't run at 450/850. I use the same bios i use for my card?? is there any way to solve this problem?

I also tried latency modded (40) & non-modded (43) bios, but nothing works. It freezes on nature & corruption at troll's lair. Help me.......

THANKS.

Jimmor,I want to thank you for the modded bios.my MSI 5900XT vivo will now run rock solid at 480/800.where as before it would go absolutly no higher then 450/765...testing at 495/830 for the last day has proved it can handle this even higher speed,I do think I'll leave it at 495/830 as I dont want to push it any higher.

you will need to tell me how you got on with those I returned ??
