Best graphics technology? Doom 3, definitely. Which looks the best? Doom 3 will probably the the richest environment, but I've got my money on Half-Life 2 having so much interaction with the environment that I won't necessarily miss the extra super-duper texture work and unified lighting system.

w/o the other 3 games apart from Far Cry on my puter ..i cannot make a decision yet ;) But going by alpha doom3....it looked good then....1 and half years latter....may even look even better

Unreal Engine 3 :D

But out of those choices, I think Half-life 2 looks the *best*. The technology is probably sorta outdated, but the game simply looks good, and I'm very impressed with some of the effects. Doom 3 looks good, but really the game relies almost exclusivly on bumpmapping and shadows. Also Doom 3 is barely even using pixel shaders, the game could look exactly the same on a Geforce 1 card (if my understanding of the engine is correct). Although Farcry running with SM3 does look pretty damn nice...

Having 1 of those 4 on my machine its kinda hard to pick especially since a lot of times screenies can paint a completely different picture vs actually gameplay visuals. I'll reserve my opinion until then but if I had to pick solely on screenshots.....if would have to be anything using the Unreal Engine 3 platform :D

Well, IMO STALKER blows all other games away in realism and believibility. HL2 and Doom 3 look really really cool, and look great... but if we are talking about realism, neither of them come close to STALKER. No way.

BTW, Farcry is deffinitely one of the most demanding games out now, but i personally didnt think it was that amazing graphically. It was nice to look at, but not realistic (ie, it never tricked my eyes into thinking it was real... STALKER does that in almost every screen shot\video).

As others have said, it's hard to make an informed decision considering that only one of the four games listed is actually out. They're all very impressive in terms of graphics, and I'm sure they'll offer an incredible gameplay experience.

But technology wise, I would have to go with HL2 if only for its alleged scalability, flexibility and interactivity.

Well if we vote for whats available from all the media / pics and leaked demos available id say Doom 3 for light/shadow effects.

Doom 3 does not rely solely on bumpmapping and lighting. No, the game would not look the same on a GF1. Doom 3 has the most realistic characters of them all, i mean show me a game with characters that look better than this http://doom3.com/images/desktops/desktop_3_lg.jpg

I voted Far Cry 'cos it's the only one I've actually played.. And it looks neeeat. Not a very fair poll, really..

Try Far Cry in Cold mode - it looks a lot more realistic. I am interested to see how the virtual displacement mapping in the next patch looks and how it affects performance. My main gripe with Far Cry is the crappy sky. I am hoping someone makes a Mod that adds some movement to it at least.

As for which game, Far Cry is the only one out right now so it wins by default for me. They all look good in their own way and I am hoping the gameplay is there too!

i really wish doom3 would get rid of those glossy surfaces... it makes the game look very fake. how many times do you see a pole or person in real life that looks like they've been wrapped in celephane?

there is a video with far cry with 'displacement mapping' Its not real displacement mapping at all and doesnt look much better (if at all).

I REALLY wish people would stop saying things like this. I seriously doubt that you'll even notice the graphics when you are running for your life from demons, spider things, and big monsters.

heh, i refuse to vote when the games i'm voting on aren't even released yet.

if i were guessing, however, i would say that doom3 will probably end up with the best graphics; but i don't know that, therefore i wont vote :)

I know plenty of games that are years old that have renders that good or better. Since it is obviously a render. ;)

Maybe an in-game cutscene, done at higher than normal detail. I have the alpha too, and I know it doesn't look that good.

Arioch

That could be an in-game shot. I mean at 2048x1536 it doesn't matter if the game was running at 2 FPS for a screenshot!
