16383 @FP32 > 16774 @FP24 IMO.

16383 @FP32 @ 590MHz core > 16774 @FP24 @ 766MHz core

If this actually is the case...

Or
16383 @FP16 < 16774@FP24

I doubt that NV is using reduced precision in 3dmark03, considering that image quality seems just fine on the NV4x cards and considering that FP32 is relatively fast on the NV4x cards. However, there may be some instances where FP16 is more than adequate precision and does not result in any image quality issues, so in these cases it would make sense to take advantage of this level of precision.

Nope, Futuremark certified that the 60.72 drivers have no app-specific optimizations and 3dmark03 doesn't support partial precision. So the 6800 is running FP32.

That benchmark is with the 61.11s though isnt it?

The 61.11s are only slightly faster on 3d mark03 though so they probably havnt resorted to 3dmark03 specific optimizations

OMG the quality difference is so big I can notice it with eyes closed! Damn ATI with their crappy FP24! It makes my penis shrink!

You can only submit the 60.72s to the ORB AFAIK. Driver rev wouldn't matter anyway though as FP16 would give the Nvidia cards a massive boost if it were enabled, which isn't the case.

I'm sure you could notice the framerate difference between 16383 and 16774, too :)

Point is Nvidia card is doing higher precision at the same speed, so I'd give the tip to Nvidia.

The CPU in the NV40 system, although at higher clock-speed isn't using the EE. That might make a few hundred 3dmarks of a difference.

I think you missed the point. What use is FP32 if you can't see the difference between it and FP24? You'd need really dark games with lots of blending and a good eye to see any difference.

Might not be as useful in 3dmark since its an old app. But if you are comparing scores, I'd definitely give the tip to the card rendering at a higher precision if they are within 5% of each other.

I swear, ATI fanboys said FP32 was going to be important this generation(before they knew R420 was using FP24, of course)until they found out R420 only had FP24 precision.

They were also saying trilinear/brilinear filter optimizations were bad even if you didn't notice the differences in gameplay :)

Sigh thanks Ruined for starting yet another ATI/NV flame thread....

Heh, while I was just jumping on the double standard bandwagon. I'll behave. ;)

As did the other side's fanboys, all the while NV4x and 3x continue to share the same lowered precision paths in all games

It's always gloom and doom when your favorite video card company is threatened by something that has a big clock speed disadvantage. Sit back, relax, have a few drinks. You'll feel great!

sat, it gets tiring to deal with people that are here just to bash nv/nv users...

It's even worse to see others like yourself defend that type of behavior, did mike hurt your feelings or something ? -I can't think of an other reason for your dickheadish "just have a drink and calm down" crap.

Omg Saturn is Biased! :ORDER:

Naw. It's really not a big of deal. I prefer the 6800 series to the X800 series. But I'm a feature lover, A big reason I preferred the 5900X to the r300 series.

The GPU is clocked at 590mhz core, I wonder how long could u leave it like that? Since the core can be clocked to 600. Did u use aircooling or watercooling?
