WE NOW HAVE CONFIRMATION that Nvidia's wonder driver should arrive sometime tomorrow. This driver should fix some bugs and speed up things in some applications.

Any rumors on the version number? I guess any increase is just for the 6800 series though, right?

I just hope the performance increases are legitimate and not some IQ affecting hacks. I am also hoping that this will fix the issues with Far Cry once and for all as the problems with that game have me questioning whether I want a 6800U or not.

anyone think the performance will apply to the fx series? or just 6800

Probably just the 6800...

Anyways, looks interesting, and I'm curious what improvements will be made to the 6800U test scores...

Well from my experiences with new driver releases after the introduction of the last few ATI cards I own the main performance increases were always concentrated on the new cards.

The INQ speculations have been too optimistic.
Don't expect too much of the performance boost, or you will be disappointed...

If performance is increased by as much as 15% then I know which card I'll be getting...hopefully soon :(

I'm with Zoomy. I hope the new drivers improve performance on the FX 5900 series. Since earlier 60 series forceware do (except for the bugs), I see no reason why these won't :) (Minus the bugs hopefully)

yeah, i believe there will be some more performance increases on FX series as well. It seems anytime performance increased for the 6800, it increase for my card too :D

If these drivers improve performance by 30% without any i.q loss, i'll be jumping back on the nvidia bandwagon. :)

maybe its just me but I didnt read that THESE DRIVERS were going to improve speed by 30%. This is all I got that even mentioned the number 30

Our source told us that the original driver that the press benchmarked back in April when the chip was launched was roughly 30 per cent slower then the hardware is capable of.

Good point. I think I'll edit my post above.

The performance improvement will be between -2% and +100%. ;)

I highly doubt the drivers will be released today, considering the 6800 still isn't available. But hey, hopefully I'm wrong :)

Maybe the Inq got the rumor wrong and it was ATI instead.

if you read the article, they couldn't have been mistaking the ATI release...

Why do I even bother to read the inquirer? :lame:

I think it is going to be the 60.85 WHQL driver, but I hope I am wrong....

I've been using this driver for the FX 5900 and show no improvement but actually a little slower. My games seems to be choppy at times..
