this is what I've seen at 3 places now...

lets see, I can get an x800pro for 450, or... an 9800xt for 500... :retard:

Won't cost you $450, as I'm not sure they're allowed to charge more than retail. It's been $399 at every major chain I've run across--online or in their store. But yes, they're all still pretty retarded about older tech, as 9800XT's and 5950 Ultra's are still lying around for $500. :retard:

Or at least they're hoping to find some really stupid customers around to get rid of what they have left.

Howsabout we just do some repricing there, guys?

Right now, a lot of places appear to be charging higher than retail. Just check some of the threads here. In some cases the prices are much higher than retail. Even worse for the nvidia side.

Certain online sites, yes. (Including the common purchase sites like NewEgg and Directron.) I don't think any big retail chain can or will; I certainly have seen no examples of it yet. (Mainly counting BestBuy and CompUSA, though--I haven't seen much availability at others. Fry's does, and also charges straight retail.) Even the larger online purchase sites have them pretty reasonable (Buy.com for instance has the X800 for $414).

I usually scout around a bit for the best prices, but for slow launches of much-desired gear, the funny thing is you'll basically get your BEST prices at big chains, as they're all sticking to MSRP, while the places which are usually good for "deals" later are looking to profit off demand now.

The way EVERY place is bad right now, though, is in the prices of last generation's "uber" cards. I have a feeling it'll take them a while to figure out what to do with the 9800XT's and 5950Ultra's... Since NV4x/R4xx aren't yet flooding the market, they're going to ride out last gen's cards as far as they can for as much as they can. (Maybe hoping some people will misread what's what when looking for a new card, too.)

they have it @ my local bestbuy... display box only though...

$399...

can pre-order x800PE's as well... display boxes only...

$499

no sign yet of the nv40 in either retail or display box form...

currently the 9800XT's and 5950's are going for same astronomical prices as their replacements will go for soon...

You can´t preorder any more at bestbuy. For some reason they have removed them. Hopefully it´s just that their site got bogged down from everyone looking for the shipping status or that they can´t take any more preorders and deliver them in reasonable time...

I just went to mine today... they are taking pre-orders in store still...

I see many online stores that have OEM cards for 399 now.
It seems the prices are starting to drop a little on the Pro.

I may be getting one myself. I'm sick of waiting
on Nvidia to release the 6800GT.
In about 30 days u will be able to pick up a X800Pro
for under 350. :)
I might just wait a bit longer and get a good deal. ;)

I talked to two different Best Buy's this weekend and both don't expect any X800's in store until mid July. One CompUSA reported end of June.

Any else hear this? I was hoping they would be shipping sooner :(

I pre-ordered the X800 XT PE over a month ago from CompUSA and got free shipping and 10% off my purchase. Can't wait til June 21. I find this price reasonable.

I haven't checked stores in the past week, but they still had them in at that point. Their stocks may be a bit drained, though, as BestBuy has them online as "backorder availability (usually 5-7 days)" and even CompUSA's online store went to "pick-up only" ordering. (It does, however, pull up 5 stores within 50 miles of me that have them in stock, which includes the two I'd normally go to.)

Outpost.com (Fry's online store) has both ATi and Visiontek X800's available for order at $399 with seemingly no restrictions.

Circuit City, PC Richards, The Wiz, WalMart, and all the other major retail chains I can think of still have them nowhere in sight. Other online sources DO have them, but usually they're reasonably-priced and not-in-stock, or a "pay through the nose" deal.

So it's still somewhat widespread, just getting a bit squeezed now.

Absolutely correct, I ordered one last week (Visiontek X800 PRO for $413 shipped) and it has been delivered today. Now I have to wait to get off work....3.5 more hours... :(

my bb has them for 349$ + 50 dollar rebate so 299, not bad, cheaper than 9800 pros at some places

if you ever get the mail in rebate, I've never known anyone to get them,

I sent a 50buck on in for a printer once, and never got it, pisses me off that they can do that.

What part of the country do you live in? I'm wondering if anyone has seen them on the east coast. I checked again today after seeing some say they had seen them at retail stores but neither my BB or CompUSA has them. Worse, they also don't know when they'll be getting any.

Haha I know. The last 20 minutes seemed like 4 hours...but I get it up and running without a hitch. I havent really done any major testing, but the highest OC I got was 530/510 before it rebooted on me.

Where on earth is that, because it would be utterly hot?

And for reference, Jarred, I've never had a mail-in rebate fail. Just be careful about who you get them from... I certainly don't chase after items with complex return schemes or from not-so-reputable sources.

I've never heard of a mail in rebate at Best Buy to come back, even the employee told me chances are your not gonna get them.

besides it's just a bull**** scheme to get your address so they can send you more junk.

I can't vouch for BestBuy, but I can vouch for Costco (a lot), WalMart, CompUSA, Staples, The Wiz, Circuit City, and most of those fall in the same vein. I've probably gotten back about $500 in mail-in rebates from all the assorted products, and I don't suffer from an undue mailbox glut either.

Most of the time, they're just complex coupons which they're hoping people will forget to cash in. Gives the incentive to buy, but not the same thing as a "sale."

i worked for best buy for awhile... if you fill everything out perfectly you should pretty much always get them back... it helps to send them by registered mail so the company has to sign for it :eek2:

ah it's the whole registered mail thing.

I hate rebates anyways, I'd rather just go somewhere else or order it on-line then have to deal with that ****.
