View Full Version : has anyone tried the ruby demo with a 64bit fx5200 card?

just curious, but with my mildly overclocked rig (asus magic fx5200 128mb/64 bit clocked at 300/450 on an athlon xp 2000/msi kt4v mobo with a twinmos 256mb 2.5cl 2700 2-2-5-2 running on a fsb speed of 178mhz w/o multiplier setting), ruby runs with the nv3xruby patch on nv drivers 56.72/winxp combo rather slow as like a slideshow. this happens only after an hour or so for the caches to run and hdd to add up. in addition, humus glsl/dx9 demos run smooth too with the new glsl extensions option added, so does rthdribtl 1.2 together with my favorite pixies lil_J's dawn ultra version and dusk ultra v. all this with ps 2.0 forced, aa in app control with 8X anis in nvhardpage/riva tuners lastest on a 800X600 screenie. i get like 1300(1024X768) for the lastest free version 3Dmark benchies.

The Geforce FX 5900 only gets about 4 fps! Trust me the demo was not meant to run on nVidia based cards. Although my overclocked 9600XT can pull a nice 30fps with 0AA.

It would be nice to see how it runs on the Geforce 6800 though.

well post the links to the stuff and ill try it.

Edit, hmm ok i found it and i get a long list of vertex and pixel shader errors on the 6800u

im using 61.12 and dx 9c

My Geforce FX 5900 gets about 9-10 FPS in this Demo, With 4x AA.

Awesome, thanks.

Download the Ruby demo here http://ati.com/developer/demos/rx800.html

Download the NV3X patch here http://www.users.on.net/triforce/ruby/NV3xRuby.zip

Once again, thanks.

It will run terrible on 512mb of memory BTW, at least it did for me.

setting a 256 aperture size totally made it for me for some real strangeness.
mayhaps 'tis the reason i can run the ruby/chimp/dusk ultra version via a not-so-cool 3-5frame factor with just a 256mb bread and butter stick o-ram.

obviously as the patch states only NV3x can run the demo, its a shame i would have liked to see the performance on the 6800

[sBaseLightmapIlluminateDOF.ssh] (line 108): Error creating Vertex Shader
[SSGenericAPI_D3D.cpp] (line 1223): Unknown pixel shader version ffff0300
[sBaseLightmapIlluminateDOF.ssh] (line 142): Error creating Pixel Shader
[SSGenericAPI_D3D.cpp] (line 940): Unknown vertex shader version fffe0300

the demo works only with a black screen, all sounds work though

Download 3D-Analyze (http://www.tommti-systems.de/start.html) and enable the "nv40 fix for R420 demos" option to run Ruby on your 6800.
