Asus P4P800 LAN
Intel P4 2.8C
Corsair PC3200 TwinX-1024LL
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 80GB 8MB
LG DVD-ROM
Gainward FX PowerPack! Ultra/780 TV-DVI GF-FX5600
Philips 109B

That's my personal rig. There are some more 20 or so different PCs, rangeing from an old pII 350MHz to another couple of PCs just like mine.

And then there are the two beowulf clusters :D

Edit: I forgot to mention it. There is only one box here running win2k, and almost only for photoshop. All the other boxes run linux. (yeah, I know, there's gimp, and I use it, but, frankly, it's a pos compared to PS...) ;)

A 1.8 celeron which I overclocked to 2.4 on some p.o.s. mb w/ intel on board graphics and only 256 megs of some generic PC2100. This stupid thing runs out ram when I open more than four windows, although I guess it doesn't help that it NEVER stops folding. Last home PC I had with only 256 megs of ram was a P3 800 @ a gig on the legendary 440BX......

Hah DD, GX260's/240/270s are all we use @ work now. :)

I'd never buy one for myself but they seem to do OK for us. Only the occasional hardware problem. But boy do those SFF cases get hot!

This thing is slow, slow, and SLOW! I have to wait a good minute and a half for it to boot up to winblows! I'm spoiled @ home, when I boot up, it takes all but 25 secs!

CD-ROM (!)
20 GB drive
Integrated graphics (i810E) and sound (SoundMAX)
Philips 109S monitor
Windows 2000/SP4

The perfect machine for embedded development  ... loading up the debugger/emulator used to bring it to its knees until I grabbed some extra memory.

At school, for programming and whatnot:

athlon xp 2700
1GB ddr400
120GB 7200rpm HDD
9800pro
nvidia mobo chipset, soundstorm audio.
17" LCD (samsung)
Audigy 2

Thats in my office about 500km from here.. I only get to use the thing for a few days every month or so, but the people who I work for there said "I looks like It would be good for you to have your own computer here when you come in, so here is $3000.. Go build".. I had no argument with that plan. Still gave them back a few hundred dollars at the end of the process.

I win, the old computers at school:

Pentium 2 (I think) @ 233 MHz
32/64MB
Win 95
optical drive that barely works

Also add into the list-o-crap a tonne of useless software and bogus stuff people kept installing.

Back in 10th grade, which was like 3 years ago, we had Pentium, 16 megs of ram...There was even this one computer that probably had the same specs of an Atari. We used those beasts untill the middle of my 11th grade year, and they upgraded them to P4's.....and then we got an administrator to lock every feature known to man...which made them just as useless as the P1's...None the less, I hated my school.

Well, I've had to use a variety of PC's at NJIT, here are some that I can recall.

In the CAD lab (this is really sad)

Dell Server or some such
PIII 500mhz
512MB PC100
10GB 5400rpm HDD
32MB SDRAM PCI card (some defunct company, can't remember the name)
CDROM
250MB ZIP
Widescreen LCD (ghosted like hell but had a real clear picture)

PC Lab

Gateway with a small form factor of some kind
PIII 933mhz
256MB PC133 SDRAM
CDROM
250MB ZIP
Integrated crap video
Integrated crap audio
19" CRT monitors

Robotics lab

Assorted old old 486's and Pentium/PII's
Crappy 13" monitors with 256 color and 640x480 res
< 1GB drives
anywhere from 8MB to 64MB of RAM
Windows 95 and 98 on some
Some with CDROM's, some with 5.25" floppies!

These were just for programming and controlling robots that were using programs written in BASIC, so they didn't need anything more really.

There really aren't any decent systems around the campus, but why would you really need any? The ones that they offer on a lease program are actually quite nice.

Lease PC

P4 2.4ghz 533mhz FSB
512MB PC2700
Intel 845PESV board
Integrated audio
Geforce 4 MX 440 64MB (128MB for architects)
80GB WD800JB
48x CDRW
250MB ZIP
Godawful 17" CRT (the picture really is terrible)

I have one of those for here at home for the family and myself when I'm here on weekends. I want to see what the incoming freshmen this year will get. It'll probably be a P4 2.8C 800mhz fsb or something along those lines. Perhaps 2x256MB for dual channel, an 80GB drive, and maybe a Geforce FX 5200 or something like that.

Dell Optiplex GX260
Intel Pentium4 2.4GHz
512MB DDR

Dell must own the office PC market.
