Price is nice! Too bad it only has 12 pipelines...

OH, and it comes with FarCry!

So far the only situation where that extra 128mb of memory is needed is farcry @ 1600x1200 with 4xAA which is pointless to me even though my 17" monitor could do it.

Still, a card with this much power will probably be able to run Doom 3 or HL2 with maximum details at a decent resolution. New games are going to use a LOT of texture memory at their max settings.

Id really like to see some benches compairing the 6800 to some other cards. 9600 Pro\XT and 9800Pro\XT preferebly. Anyone know of any?

Half Life 2 might be one of thoughs games since it uses really high res textures. Anyways, I doubt this extra memory will take affect before 1600x1200 with 2xAA and I never use thoughs settings anyways.

Yeah, we'll see. I really hope you are right though, because 256Mb cards are way overpriced. Well besides the 256Mb FX5200 64Bit cards... those go for what, 25 cents now?

Check out this article at firingsquad http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/far_cry_ati/page6.asp . With 4xAA both 9800 pro cards perform the same up till 16x12.

Just saw that thread you had a while back Anzak, your probably right, the 128Mb wont make a difference yet. But dont forget how much more powerfull this card is than the 9800 Pro, it has a lot more headroom.

I guess theres no question that a 128Mb one of these will be better than a 128Mb card of the previous generation... but until i see a compairison of all of them, i have to hold my judgement on the 256Mb cards.

Hmmm this is interesting...
http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/6800nugt-4.htm

At 1024x768, the 6800NU gets only 48FPS in Far Cry, I really hope thats with at least 4xAA and 16xAF because according to that firingsquad article, even the 9800 Pro 128Mb is faster at 1024x768 with 4xAA.

Also, maybe im missing something but, arent the framerates in that firingsquad article insanely high? Theres nooo way a 9600 Pro (such as mine) can get 25fps average in far cry with 4xAA at 1024x768. To make the demo smooth i had to play at 640x480 or 800x600 with NO AA or AF... maybe im just remembering it wrong tho...

Looks like 6800NU is only 8 pipe GT 12 , ultra 16 , who knows maybe its more crippled then just few pipes :retard: but drivers getting better and better thought

They look like 4xAA/8xAF scores, the 3 cards in the FS review seem to match those mentioned here. But, the scores seem pretty low compared to Mike's. Could it be an 8-pipeline card?

Hmm, this is getting confusing...from my understanding the 6800NU was supposed to have 12 pipes, and the GT and Ultra were to have 16 pipes, with the *possibility* of Nvidia releasing an 8 pipe budget version later on. Perhaps they're experimenting with 8-pipe versions already and seeing what the reaction is from review sites, or perhaps there are driver/manufacturing bugs that are locking the cards to 8 pipes in certain cases?

Anyway, it's safe to say that ANY variation of the 6800 beats the living crap out of the 9600 and below cards, and will beat a 9800xt by a large margin most of the time (though Farcry does seem to be the thorn in the 6800's side). Quite amazing, usually the budget versions of new cards are slower than the high-end version of the last generation. Heh, I wonder how a 4 pipe version of the card would turn out, it would certainly make a very nice sub-$100 budget card ;)

The 6800NU does have 12 pipes:

Well the other article is using an 939 FX-53 on a K8T800Pro... so its not a CPU bottleneck :p

EDIT: I played the Far Cry demo for a little while and i figured out what was wrong with my performance. I had texture filtering set to medium. If I set it to low, my frame rates DOUBLE. I got probably an average of 35fps at 1024x768, everything maxed with no AA\AF and low texture filtering. Also, im pretty sure that the full version of the game (patched) performs a lot better in general.

Is there some reason you say this when everything I've seen on the GT says it's 16 pipes?

Geforce 6800 Ultra = 16 pipes, Geforce 6800 GT = 16 pipes, Geforce 6800 = 12 pipes. Thats according to NVIDIA, Gamespot, EVGA, and I know I've seen it on a coouple other sites.

Did you guys notice that it says... "FarCry, the first PS3.0 Game" Does that mean that the patch will come by July 1st? Hopefully

Well i kinda based my info on Beyond 3d discussion (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13070&sid=93f7595f836123e7c2dc84568b9db84c) and some test they have that Non Ultra only 8 pipe , score was kinda weak barely better then 5950.

I see. I guess I'll keep believing EVGA, nVidia, and Gamespot then, rather than some rumors some guys on a BBS are posting.

Honestly I agree. The 6800 ultra was being slandered as not a true 16 pipe card when it came out. Of course when Beyond3d did review it, it was stated it 'exhibits all the behavior of a true 16 pipe card'.
