Hiya

I'm using Red Hat 8.0, and i've rebuilt the source RPM's, and everything works great untill i try to startx. Well, even after that it works perfect, apart from slight problem. It doesnt use my monitor. It uses my TV OUT instead.

I first thought my kernel had gone fubar because my monitor just switched off and displayed "NO SIGNAL!", but it was using the TV OUT.

If i post my XF86Config file here, will someone point out what could be wrong?

Cheers dudes :)

Try having a look at the Options in the Nvidia installation guide -
particularily have a look at Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT" in the device options section (just look for Option "DPMS" bit)

then again, mine is trying to display to the TV, and I can't stop it.. and it doesn't display properly so i'm in re-boot city, every time I try and startx.

:(

anyone have any advice? I've actually done this before, and I just fixed it by changing the options - didn't work this time :(

yea, i put both of those lines in, and it just switches off the TV out, and doesnt initialise the display :(

Where's your monitor plugged into in the card? The DVI port, with an adapter, or the CRT port?

Does text mode work (VESA framebuffer)?

its plugged into the CRT port, as my card only has TV out and a normal CRT port

OK.

But does text-mode, VESA framebuffer do what you want? How about the "vesa" driver for X?

VESA works fine, its just when i've installed the Nvidia drivers, and edited the XF86Config file it goes into TV mode. When using the drivers, the kernel works, just when i startx it switches to TV mode
