Dave, is that card better than Audigy or Game Theater XP 6.1? I have been wanting to buy one, I don't care about the break out box thingy, all I need is a better sound card cuz I am still using Avance AC'97.

For Music and DVD,i think it would sound better than the Audigy, not sure about teh GTXP as that is supposed to be hercules high end card. However I would still recommend a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Dunno if its the best... I paid only 37 bucks for it, so its much cheaper than an Audigy and it supports EAX 1, 2 and A3D. Its got the the CS4624 chip on it, Hercules added extra codecs to support 8 channels.

Know any that have the CS4630 chip? or is that only GTXP?

Early batches of GTXP 6.1s and (as far as I know) all Santa Cruz have the CS4630 chip on it. But the chip has been discontinued because of some sort of defect.

To be honest I don't know much about sound cards. I just wanted something cheap that supports 5.1 and isn't integrated on a motherboard :)

How is the Santa Cruz, I mean how good are they, anyone? cuz I've never had any experience with them.

Never heard of the defectof the 4630, but all i know is, once i heard one ive been wanting to buy one over my audigy. Excellent card overall, very stable and unlike creative, very solid driver support.

The Fortissimo III 7.1 is good soundcard especially considering the price. http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/thumb.gif

Santa Cruz is a great music card and as LTech221 said has solid drivers.
