just curious since this is my next cpu as to how far the P4 2.8 can be pushed with standard cooling, on my P4 1.8 im running it at 2.35ghz, so thats a 500 mhz increase.

Will i get 500 mhz out of the P4 2.8 making it 3.3 ghz ? or can it be pushed further or less ?

Post your experiences and your O/C'ing succeses

It all depends. Northwood (P4C) CPUs probably will give slightly better results than the Prescott (P4E) because the latter typically runs hotter. Whether or not you're able to get a good overclock will depend just as much on your cooling setup as the particular CPU you get. You might get one that's only stable well below the target you want. Or you might get one that goes well above, even on air cooling. It's complete luck of the draw.

My Northwood 2.8 M0 stepping could do 3.4~3.5GHz, 3.5Ghz was only possible with watercooling. 3.4 could be done on stock cooling.

I wish I had slightly better ram. I could really test my 2.8c.

I have two options basically with just arctic silver 5 and stock cooling. I can run 3.2@1:1 or 3.5@5:4. With my current set up those are my limits. The 3.2 OC will yield a nice 'read' of 5640.

If you go with other than stock cooling, and PC 3500 and up I think you would do better than I have. Most people I know with 2.8c can do 3.2 with little trouble if they don't have a cheap arse mobo or ram. <Don't cut corners on either of those.

If you are going to get 2.8 make sure it's the 'c', in my opinion.

Just got some new ram. It was way cheaper than the 3.4c right now. I figure I ride the 2.8c into the ground. Now I am at 262x4, or 1048 FSB which yeilds 3.668. >That's a 1:1 ratio. We will see how it holds up. If anything melts I'll let you know :D

Returned the ram,

The 2.8 wouldn't hold up at that level so I went with a P 3.4c and

Mine hits 3600 Mhz with an SP94. ~35°C idle ~49°C load.

2.8C slj6w (or whaever don't remember, but it's the normal one)

Asus P4C800 E Deluxe
2x 512 Kingston HyperX Pc3200 CH5

Running 256 FSB @ 1.60V, 5:4 divider, 204 Mhz ram @ 2.5-3-3-7 (crappy CH5) @ 2.75V.
