Currently I have a kogi (yeah i know no name brand, but very good) lcd 17inch monitor. 1280x1024 max res. i was wondering should i go and buy a monitor capable of 1600x1200 resolution or not?

system i will be buying:

amd 939 fx53
abit or asus a8v motherboard
corsair pc3200xl 1gig
bfg 6800 ultra
2 hitachi 80GB sata's in raid 0
western digital 120GB ide as backup
audigy 2zs

thats assuming i dont buy a new monitor, if i buy a new monitor i would probably have to cut down on the cpu to say a 3500+.

The reason I am asking is because of the 6800 Ultra. If im getting such a high end video card would I be missing out by not being able to go to 1600x1200 resolution? Is it worth getting a "slower" (lol) cpu for a crt monitor capable of 1600x1200? I do go to lan parties a lot and I think I would prefer this lcd over a crt.

Wow, you will have almost hte exact same systme as me :D

Basicly you do have a pickle, if you dont have any complaints about your monitor, you could go for the fx-53, however if you do think yoru monitor is too old, then maybe you should get a new one. However LCD's are still not good for gameing, and if you get like a 500+ 21'' monitor its not good at all for lan partys, they are realllly heavy.

So sorry if i cant give you a decisive answer, you just gotta think of how your gonna use it i guess.

1280x1024. or something very close to it like for battlefield 1942: 1280x960 or something like that.

also i was wondering if nvidia cards keep aspect ratio? like say if i played a rts at 800x600 would it stick to that resolution and not stretch the image and have black around it or would it stretch it like ati cards?

HI

I would go with a 22" NEC superbright diamondtron, I just got one from newegg, cost about $600 shipping included. verygood for games and any type of graphics , sharp text, bright colors, and is total flat tube display. before I decide to buy this the NEC display I pick up a 20" viewsonic LCD which used the same panel form the dell 20" lcd in which bought form my local compusa very mad with the results, even know it had 16ms RT, the screen dooreffect bather me alot. that Display after tax came $1,200 - $150 rebate total pice of 1,050.

20" VS LCD 6/10 interms of all around quality
22" NEC 9/10 interms of all around quality

Nec would have recive a 10/10 but the only problem is it's weigh.

Hope this helps
