In this bench the X800 Pro runs GT4 FASTER than GT2. This makes me think there might be ATI optimizations on GT4. GT3 runs slower than GT4 many times

The first link you posted shows that the user is using Direct 9.0c. The others have Direct9.0b. That alone could be the reason for the discrepancy. Also, since ATi's Catalyst 4.6 are fully approved by FM, I seriously doubt that there are any application specific/FM optimizations. There were some general performance increases for x800 in 4.6 (see driver readme/notes), but I don't think those would have broken FM guidelines since they are general case.

It natural as i have seen this with the GeForce 6 cards also, which is strange really as you would expect it to be more demaning but i guess not.

could be explained with teh way its coded...

gt2 is proxycon right?

if it is... afaik the shadows and some other effects are done on the cpu IIRC which could explain why gt4 scales better...

Nah they did the shadows on the gpu IIRC. Some say the test is comparable to doom 3 but doom 3 does that on the cpu also IIRC.

GT2 does have more phsyics I mean its got lots of gun fire, but both test basically scale independant of cpu speed if you have a moderate system. GT4 will benefit mostly from pixel shading while Gt2 also benefits from memory bandwidth.

Comparing the generations the main gain has been in pixel shading power so its logical that gt4 would gain most speed.

What about GT3? What does GT3 rely on?
