I was going to buy a 6800U when they come out and then I saw the system requirements on evga website. 3.0 AGP, I only have 2.0 at 4x. IS the card backwards compatible? If so, is it even worth running on AGP 4x? How much slower will that be compared to 3.0 8x? Thanks.

very minimal. difference in performance of 8X agp and 4X agp cards isn't that much. Thats probably why modern cards have 128mb of memory on board to rely less on system memory through a slow interconnect such as AGP. Even with the move to a 8GB/s (full dupex) PCI Express the benefits of that faster interconnect isn't showing as much...but in all fairness, the systems tested are with mostly beta drivers and very little software designed to take advantage of the new 16X PCI Express interface.

BFG lists the min requirement as AGP 2.0.

2. An AGP 2.0 (or higher) compliant motherboard. Some motherboards violate the AGP specification and therefore this card may not physically fit in some systems.

ah nice find Lezmaka. I hadn't known about that. So there you go, you need a mobo that has min AGP 3.0.

Don't you mean AGP 2.0? :) Do you guys think a 430 PS is enough for a non OC 6800U? Thanks.

Search this forum for 6800 and power supply. You will find much discussion on this topic.

I stand corrected again. Damn must be the hang over. So basically ya a 4X agp mobo would suffice ;)

as for the PSU talk...430W (quality) will be enough man ;)

Hey man I have a Antec Truepower too..but 480W. ;)

And ya they be quality (unless Rytr gets his hands on one). So ya dude you will be fine for a 6800 Ultra with the True Power 430W. It has been demonstrated by some that even a qaulity 300W PSU maybe enough. NVIDIA reccomends 430W PSU to be on the safe side.
