Someone at [H]ard forums had theirs up to 640/610. I am assuming this person is using watercooling or some other massive cooler.

120 mhz? Is that all? Wow...

Guess that pretty much confirms how little OC headroom there is with X800XT PE's...

hmmm.... I don;t trust it, I'm not gonna run out and buy a PE and clock it up that high just because someone said someone else got it that high, and their not sure what with... I'd rather a review site or something do a review on it, or have more people claim they got it that high...do you really believe what everyone says on forums? :)

oh and someone got a 6800u up to

"Innovision 6800U runing 602/1265. CPU at -93C and GPU at -99C."

heres the link= http://vr-zone.com.sg/?i=882&s=1

that's just over 200mhz above the core. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna get a card up that high, or would I always want to run a card that high.

see the thing I'm looking for is a manufactures warranty, if they send it to you overclocked it's covered.

If I don't get the warranty I want the assurance of knowing the clock speeds aren't going to damage the card, and unfortunately ONE guy on some forum saying that they got a card up to X high, isn't enough insurance for me. :P

Jarred, you're crazy man! Muya closed down the other thread and you started a new one @ one in the morning! No need to lose sleep over the X800 / 6800 war! (joking, joking, joking!)

Now really, there is absolutely no way that either you or the manufacturer can know if your video card died because of overclocking. If it dies, it will be covered by the warranty no matter who you bought it from. It really is highly unlikely that any 6800U you buy won't reach similar speeds to what you would get with the "watercooled from the factory" card, since you plan to watercool it anyways. Really, I think rare will be the 6800U that doesn't do at least 450 on water, and that's being quite conservative as I haven't seen a review of one that did less than 430 on stock cooling. Even though I know money is no object for you, is it really worth the extra $200+ for what amounts to a 20 - 30 mhz difference, and that's not even guaranteed. You can get a really sweet watercooling setup for that money. And btw, aren't these cards coming with waterblocks for 1/4 inch id tubing, get your own and at least use 3/8, although I'd use 1/2 inch id if I was building from scratch.
Heat is the big enemy of these new cards as both ATI's and Nvidia's offering look to be reaching 80c sometimes. My X800 Pro did 580 on a peltier, but only 540 on water. The temps under load were 27c and 41c respectively. I have no idea what it would do on stock cooling as I never ran it like that. My point being that whether you get a hand picked GPU or one of the regular ones, the difference in the max overclock would be negligible if it's going to be watercooled.

SIK_L_CELL just replied and put some water on it. Core is now at 678 :). Ykes. I can't wait for mine now. I've got a swiftech MCW50 block just itching to cool that bad boy.

Man, 678 on water only without a volt mod is tough to swallow. I'd be doing naked backflips down my street if I got those results! My MCW50-T has been serving me well since my 4600ti days. Turned out to be a great deal in the long run....$50 to keep three gens of video cards below ambient. :)

the stock cooler is not so hot... I'm sure anyone who can adequately cool the core with a better cooler AND have decent sinks on the ram will be able to get decent clocks :)

well here's the deal, there are no vendors selling a severely overclocked X800PE, why so?

and, ...even if I could replace it without having to hassle the warranty, (which is good) but I don't wanna get it and fry the thing because I'm pushing it to unstable speeds.

I want to know FOR SURE what kind of clock speeds the PE can handle, BEFORE I just go in and start qrankin it up...

now, Gainward is offering a watercooled 6800u with 470mhz core, this is more appealing to me because they've already tested it and know that it's stable at those speeds, (hopefully the reviews are coming soon)

gainward makes great products, and I trust them, I'd rather have that assurance than to overclock a GPU myself.

and to get back on the topic of the "more room to grow" I take back my statement about the overclockability of the 420, however I still think the 6800 has more future potential.

Muya closed the thread because we were off topic :) (and I work from home so I got my own crazy hours... )

but am I crazy here to go with a company that offers a card overclcoked than to do it myself? (plus I hate doing extra work...)

Well, you don't want to overclock you card. You just want the fastest thing you can get from a factory, no matter the price. I now understand your p.o.v.
As an overclocker, I like to find the limits myself and work from there, but like you said, you're not looking for any extra work.
And I'm not going to debate with you about the future again as what will most likely happen is that these two will be so close, that the lead will change hands on almost every driver release for the next six months. And when that time comes, we will know exactly where each card has the upper hand, but we won't care because our focus will have shifted to NV50/R500!
Muya actually closed it cause some true Nvidiot showed up talking about how every LAN party he's been to the ATI people's pc just suck and never work. What a flamer!

Have you looked at what BFG is offering?
