View Full Version : Should we expect another Afghanistan in a few years?
Isn't this a mirror image (http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid=34&in=world&cat=iraq) of Afghanistan when the Russians tried to invade many years ago?

sounds like it. but the US gets a lot of flak for invading countries and not rebuilding them properly.
There's always a risk. In this case looks like its the right thing to do.

Jah, when the Soviets tried to invade Afghanistan they failed cuz they paraded themselves in, they used these huge transports and went in in large numbers. They set themselves up to lose pretty much by not taking care of their troops or their assets. They really left themselves really vulnerable. I doubt we will see that with the US, now we have better technology and soldiers nowadays have become more lethal due to better weaponry and technology as well as becoming harder to kill. We have had success in Afghanistan, and it wasn't really the country or the people that we had our conflict with, it was the Taliban, sure that was a sizable number of individuals and groups, but for the most part they can no longer operate efficiently and if anything does start happening, we can deploy forces from a number of places rather quickly to extinguish any threats or baddies(lol, DOOM). But really, I doubt that another Soviet Vs. Afghanistan deal will happen again, but then again, only time will tell.:D
Now with Iraq, we could have a pretty bad war there, but that all depends on how the coalition uses its resources and wether or not they work to gain support of the people in Iraq(or at least a majority) before we do anything. The people have to be convinced to the fact that Hussein is bad and so is his regime(if they don't already beleive so, I think alot of them are just too scared to act). But we will have so many forces there after the government collapses that it will be almost impossible for the Coalition to lose any ground. But then again, only time will tell.:D
