View Full Version : Ruby Demo
wow, I didn't like the Ruby demo at all, ...story sucked, animation was horrible, the deformation on her shoulders looked bad, the sound wasn't great... man overall I'd give it a 3.5 outta 10,
thought the Nalu demo was WAY cooler... why does ATI keep making CRAP demo's?
you are risking a flaming.
But maybe it's so demanding even their latest hardware can hardly handle it. Then again, the Nalu demo struggles too. From the laund day vid from NV. I would say the fps of the Nalu demo were around 20-30 ish. Also to be fair, there might be a lot more going on in Rubdy demo than the Nalu one.

My favourite tech demo is still Animusic - pipe dream, would have really liked to see ATi do another real time render of an Animusic piece.

I hate to admit it, but I agree with Jarred. It certainly seems like what they really wanted to create was not possible on today's hardware. Let's just say that there appears to be quite a few compromises...the environment is quite weak. The novelty wore off quick on that one. Although I will say that other than animusic, this wave of demos is significantly better than their past efforts. I enjoy zoning out in front of the crowd demo...max rez, aa, af. :smoking2:

I liked the old debevec demo and the car demo for the 9700. :)
The lava screensaver was pretty neat to.
Oh, and matrox reef demo is still a pretty neat thing to see. I have a copy of it and viewed it a few days ago on my X800 - smooth as butter. I only wish I could turn it up to 16x12.

I have the reef demo but I haven't installed it. Do I need any "special" files to run it on my X800?

You need 3danalyze to run it. That is, unless you have a matrox g450. lol

I'm not putting down Ati, I just think they hire bad artists and make piles of junk for their demo's, ... I've seen some older ones that were just horrid as well, I'm not putting down the technology, (although I didn't see anything incredible there either) but the content, the art, the sound, and the animation.

Thats fine as its your opinion. I did not care much for the Nalu is it was drab and boring. But meh :)
Funny, I think the 9700 Pro demos look better than Ruby.

I didnt think that Nalu actually did anything apart from swim round a bit? I thought it was nice that ATI actually tried to give a demo with a little bit of a point too it... and as MUYA said there is a lot more going on in the RUBY demo. It's easy for them to do a highly detailed face and the hair (damn her hair is nice ;)) when they dont have to concentrate on anything much else. Nalu was much of the same from NVIDIA. A character floating/walking around in a pretty much empty space....
Anyway, yeah i liked the pipe dream demo too

it was a decent effort, but, honestly, if you don't have your absolute best to show, don't show it at all.
it's better to have a smaller, higher quality piece than a longer, lower quality piece IMO.

If you liked the pipe dream demo, definitely get the dvd! I didn't hesitate in getting the Animusic DVD and I really enjoy it, they are working on a second DVD which I am very much looking forward to.

It wasent that bad, i mean i would hardley call Nalu a "quality piece". The most detail is in the face and the other parts of her look less detailed... just from what ive seen in the screenshots anyway (not having a 6800 i cant see for myself) but Ruby is a damn fine demo and shows the card being used in the situation where there is actually something going on more than just the main character sitting there saying "look at my boobs, arent they nice".
Sorry i think ur just having a pop at our ruby for the sake of it. ;)

Sorry I've never called anyone "our kid" when he wasn't and wasn't even a kid.

Must be
As Austin Powers would say, Ruby can look "rather mannish" from some angles. :POKE:

If I saw a man with those angles. I'd be worried.

Who are you guys kidding (pun intended) ? :screwy: I would agree with Ruined and add that i like both demos as they are. In fact, they are very different (one a bit more static, the other more action) which i particularly like.

Ruby has "a package" I think it's comical, rather than showing off a demo of a video card. Sorry, but she looks creepy
