ok, so I'm not displeased with the x800pro at all, my only issues so far are

viewpoint corruption bug within Maya,

some surfaces in games, (BF Vietnam/UT/Ground Control II) will have either scattering on them, or what looks like funky black shadows flickering on polygons.

I'll post some screenies of them next time I remember, but it doesn't happen all to often, except I can say it always happens on the GC2 start menu scene.

I'm getting some major crawlies in the area circled red.

You bought a x800Pro? I would have thought you would have gotton a 6800.

Yes, we sent him a large brown back filled with untraceable 100 dollar notes. He now bats for our team... :lol2: :angel2:#

I'm actually thinking about getting a nv40 something. Depends when the next gen games come out at the end of summer.

Are you OCing the card? The black flickering polygons sounds like result of too high a core clock. What Cat drivers are you running?

the flickering polys are usually z-buffer clamping problems. Probably becuase they don't do 32-bit Z.

Jarred (or anyone else), have you tried overclocking your card yet? I'm having some strange results that don't seem to jive with what I read about this generation of cards. I thought I had read they were bottlenecked by their memory but when running 3DMark03 the memory speed doesn't seem to have that much affect. For example, changing the memory from 525 to 535 only gives me about a 10 point increase in 3DMark03. If I change the core 5mhz (from say 525 to 530) I'll jump like 60 or 70 points. Basically, I can't seem to break 11k in 3DMark03 by bumping up the memory. I can leave the memory at 525 and just increase the core and easily break it...er, I guess I should say things are stable in 3DMark03 but I can't overclock as high when playing actual games. I was up to 555/525 (I just left the memory at 525 since it didn't seem to affect anything anyway) and completely stable in 3DMark03 but would lock up Halo within a couple of seconds. I haven't found the breaking point yet but 540 seems okay. Are you seeing the same sort of thing? Just curious since I thought it was supposed to be the othe way around. I'm using the ATI tray tools app to do the overclocking (which btw, is really nice and even includes automatic game/app detection).

Edit: 545/545 seems okay also. Still trying to find out if this is a good or bad oc for the X800 Pro. It seems to vary so much. Guru3D could only do 515/560, for example.

Yes I did indeed buy an x800 pro, however as soon as I can get my hands on a 6800u I'm gonna switch it out and give the x800pro to my wife. (she does graphic design so it's not an insult or anything)

I'm not overclocking it...dont' like to mess around to much with that sort of stuff, but if any of you want me to do some benches just let me know in what games, and how to acess framerates in those games.

I can say that I'm getting exellent framerates with any game I own at 1024x768 with AA on, (haven't tested farcry yet) and I'm running the CAT version "wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-02-040515a-015958c" name of the inst.

Games I currenty own
BF Vietnam
Homeworld 2
Ground Control II
Soldner
Call of Duty
UT

I'm gonna pick up Farcry soon.

and I'm still trying to do a Maya bench, although I'm having problems getting Maya to run now.
