Soldiers know that when the sign up, plus with hazard pay and other benefits the soldiers pay is actually quite a bit higher as I recall, whereas the trucker doesn't get such benefits.

Not to mention, you have to pay someone a lot more to make them say in a hostile area when they are not armed, not trained, and working via private employment and can quit anytime they decide they don't like it.

2k-3k is with the hazard pay and other benefits if we are talking E7 and under which is what most people are. They don't have to pay any income tax in a combat zone which is nice though.

so its justified to pay soldiers who have a bulls-eye painted on them for all intents and purposes 1/4 of what a trucker whom they are protecting on hte exact same route?

I'm not bringing up this point... the soldiers who are on the route are wondering whats going on... both being paid by the government...

The difference is they are contractors and the market will dictate the price as you know. The military is not a open market. I know it may be moraly unfair but that as you know is the nature of this issue.

as you know I don't have to like it... in fact I think it absolutely stinks...

get our soldiers to drive the damn trucks and pay them $8,000 - $10,000... they deserve the money

Then that would create resentment in the ranks of the military if a person was paid $8000 for driving a truck while a combat Marine constantly in the line of fire got $3000.

you don't think that paying truck driver 4x what the troops protecting them on the same routes is going to cause resentment?

those guys are putting their lives on the line... seems mightily improper..

No, because the soldiers know what those contractors are doing and respect that and the drivers are putting their live on the line also.

watch the flick sometime udawg :)

the interviewed soldiers and the things they say do bother me... governments never treat veterans or war-time soldiers with much dignity it seems...

not a knock against bush but rather all the suits in our government..

Yes that is Moore's pov. I don't buy it. Sorry, he is a proven liar.

I look at my job this way and I always have, I usually do more work than most at my company and do a better job but many make more than me. How ever I don't let that bother me nore do I camplare my job against theirs by a means to get more money. I just don't think that way. If the situation is unfair (and I think the government always treats vets badly) then you go to another job. If you cannot do that right away as in the military then you bide your time when you can get into a area that does pay more.

Thats life, I'm the hardest worker in my office and I get £5 a hour while the permanent members of staff are on A LOT more.

NOW, THAT ... IS PATRIOTISM!!!!

Preach it, brother! :D

That's life ...

Reminds me of my days as an Assisstant Chef. The manager made a mistake -- she pinned a little star on my shirt colar and then proceeded to tell me exactly how I saved the company so many tens of thousands of dollars in food cost. Feel really good about myself for a while. That lasted all of about 10 minutes as she announced to everyone that her boss was coming in two days time and expected us all to behave. She treated me and everyone like dogcrap until the day her boss came in. He arrived during the lunch hour rush.

So, here I am keeping one eye on three grills, the other eye on Scott (the head chef -- who always showed up for work drunk as hell, thus needed watching -- management tolerated it because he done good work 90% of the time and a drunken Scott is easier to deal with than a sober Scott), a half-dozen appliances squealing their alarms in one ear, an equal ammount of waitresses (ranging 15-30 in age) screamin' in my other ear. We're all busting our asses for the most part ... and the manager decided to leave her "pleasant face" with her boss sitting out in the dining room in order to come back and start bitching at everyone (mostly me). I didn't give her much chance to wag her yap ...

"SCOTT!! JASON!! GIRLS!! What's the damn problem back here?!? There people that's been wait-"

SUE, GET THE %&@*! OUTTA MY KITCHEN!!!

"Excuse me, buster ... I'll -- dammit, Steve is HERE, you sonofa--"

OUTTA MY KITCHEN!!! GET!! GET!! GET!! GET!!!!!

For every "get" I roared, I took a step toward her and banged on the grill with a spatula. When business died down afterwards, she tried to chew on me somemore and I laid into her calmly, right in front of her boss. I also demanded right then and there an appreciable raise.

"You're becoming a squeaky wheel, buddy!" her boss said.

"Good. Then either grease me or replace me! Either way, it's going to cost you."

He laughed and said, "That attitude, young man, will never earn you a management position."

"Did you catch the look inside the eyes of every employee here, sir, when you walked back? The look in their eyes should tell you exactly what it tells me: I don't NEED a manager's tag because, to them, I already AM the manager. Sue is nothing but the babysitter ... and she knows it! Otherwise, she would've fired me the moment I chased her out of the kitchen!"

"I might just fire you for that, boy!" he said

"And I'll be dropping off this letter to the Monroe Evening News on the bus ride home, sir!"

After a few moments of silence, he said, "I'll see what I can do!"

"You do that, sir, and thank you. But, in the meantime, I wanna see what you can do about putting what you just said in writing."

He refused to and I reiterated to him to either grease me or replace me.

I was greased with a $1.50 raise a few days later. :)

4 months after that, I was fired for refusing to open the joint because Scott was too drunk to do it himself. ;)
