Hey folks, have a Samsung LCD 19" FlatPanel and its nice and i have a FX5950 Ultra.

What im wanting to know is with the resolution limit of 1280 1024 will a perchase of a 6800 Ultra be justifying as an upgrade or is it worth it as an upgrade.

Most people buy knewer cards for higher res and more eyecandy but since im using a res of 1280 1024 is it worth it?

I would think so being that Far Cry has problems running smooth over 1024 768 anyway with eye candy all the way up so maybe be good for me but this is new for me being i used a Sony CRT 19" before and what do people think of using LCD 19" Monitors? i hear they smear in fast games but so far im happy with LCD ans seeing most people are using them know because of many nice perks in a LCD.

I also have a samsung 19" (192t) with a 5900nu, and I'm going to get a 6800ultra to run current and hopefully future games at 1280x1024 with settings maxed. There are some current games, Far Cry for instance that stress the 5900nu at that resolution, plus im a sucker for sticking with the top generation of vid card.

My samsung has some ghosting in darker areas, but Ive grown used to it, so it doesn't really bother me much anymore

Save your pennies boys.

(definately my next upgrade. gonna have to get rid of at least one of these 2001FP's)

That's what you should be aiming for before the graphics card upgrade. Or at least a 20" with 1600x1200.

U bet your ass it will be worth it. It's nice and all playing at 1600 by 1200 but if u have a 680 Ultra and game at 1028 by 1024 with $X AA and 16X AF. That is good enough :D I have an LCD and game with a 9700 Prow ith 4X AA and 8X AF at 1024 by 768 (not Far Cry ...tooo demanding) with all in game settinsg maxed. So i'd say with a 6800U double the theoretical power, you can game easuily at 1280 by 1024 with max settinsg as well as AA and AF.

I have the Samsung thats on Bestbuys website.

Im very happy with games on this new screen ut will you notice AA on a LCD and with only running as high as 12 10, is it ok if im missing out at 16 12. did before and didn't really see any improvements in games.

You'd think with a 3+P4 800 FSB gig ram and 5950 you should be able to run FarCry at any setting and any res and BFV same thing any setting and Res because of that high FSB and being over 4 ghz.

I dun need 1600 by 1200 gaming, I am satuisfied with 1280 by 1024 max. :D Battlefiele engines always tax the most l33tiest of systems...far cry well that is also a taxing game/engine.

BFV is based off the Quake 3 engine which ran on Voodoo's and why would that game even tax any system. even a P4 3+ with a gig of ram.

Is the little bit of smearing in older games normal like Quake 2 and Half Life with high mouse sensitivity? The new games don't smear at all like BFV Call Of Duty and FarCry but older games but i have a logitech duo so thats expected.

I thought most of those games like COD BFV and MOHAA were based off of Quake 3 cuz they all look alike anyway. COD even has issues with high res and Eyecandy turned all the way up but just because its based off of Quake 3 doesn't mean it has the same requirements as Quake 3.

Any tips for LCD users who want good image quality ?

Spend about twice as much money as a CRT user has to. Seriously, LCDs are great for saving space on your desk but CRTs have much better IQ imo. The good LCD monitors cost alot more than a good CRT does.

The game uses a proprietary engine named the Refractor 2, the most robust 3D rendering engine available and fully fleshes out the action.

BF uses the Refractor 2 engine which is D3D..not OpenGL quake3 engine..BF engines were coded bya differebt dev house to MOH series I think. MOH were definates Quake3 powered. And ya the new MOH game is DX9 now.

I have a Viewsonic VP201s 20.1" LCD wich its native resolution is 1600x1200, I have been playing all of my games (that support 1600x1200) with my 5900 and I havent had to many problems, although I am going to be picking up a GT soon
