I feel really glad I didn't jump the gun and buy an X800Pro. I was going to, and then I thought nahhhhh! Nothing against ATI though.

Honestly, I think I could have flipped a coin and decided... but I went with the GT. Seemed a little better to me.

I'm waiting til the SLi implementation with a athlon 64 mobo is available. Just got to wait for NVIDIA to get nforce 4 on the market. Figure i'll buy the CPU and mobo and one 6800 GT then and later add another 6800 GT and then bask in my NVIDIA 6800 SLi goodness in Everquest 2. You all can have Doom 3 and your fps games, i want My EQ fix hehe.

I'm with ya on it.
I was not paying 400+ for a X800Pro
when I could get a 16pipe GT for under 400 bucks.
No way.

I'm glad I waited. :D

I had the X800 Pro and it lasted for about a week before it died. The Aux. power connector would not get juice to the card. I sent it back and preordered a 6800 ultra. After getting the ship dates continuously pushed back, I canceled and got the BFG 6800 GT from Outpost.com this week.

It has been a long time since I've had an nVidia card. I'm glad I got this one. It is faster than the pro and the IQ seems better. Colors are an order of magnitude better.

Hands down, this is the better card.

2 days ago i was going to buy it at CompUSA (X800 Pro) for 399 since i couldnt find it for cheaper online. They were out of stock, so I went home kinda dissappointed. When I got home I just began surfing and reading benches and then found the BFG 6800 GT for 385 at CompUplus and couldnt resist, since it was a bit better than the x800 pro. So I picked it up, and am anxiously awaiting for it to come today. Kinda glad I got this card :)

Who would choose a 12 piper over a 16 pipe monster ?? :D

(this dosent mean the Pro isnt a good performer though !)

This is how my ordering went:

1. Visiontek Radeon X800 Pro 256MB (Outpost) - Cancelled
2. BFG Geforce 6800GT 256MB (Outpost) - Cancelled
3. BFG Geforce 6800GT 256MB (GameVE) - Bought

I was deciding for quite a while, and am now 98% sure I made the right choice. :)

Someone who can multiply.

X800 pro fill rate = 5700 mp/s
6800GT fill rate = 5600 mp/s

the # of pipes means nothing.

I bought a X800 PRO from Outpost.com and recieved it about 30 days ago. It was alright (3.3/5 stars) but it is now on EBay and my 9700 will be used for another year.

Really I am patiently waiting on S3

Sorry mate , but the pipes dose mean something if you read the benchmarks .

& Btw .. if the Pro is better choice , why did you order a GT ??

BFG Geforce 6800GT OC Shipping 7/6-

I suppose you cant multiply then ! :p

The X800 pro only gets the little bit extra fill rate due to the core clock speed being well above the 6800 series. Now, if the 6800's were core clocked as high as the x800's the fillrate would be much higher on the 6800's, BUT, nvidia didnt need to do that(cooling would have been a problem tho, but thats the extra 60 million or so transistors).

Actually you just proved his point. The 5900's has less pipes than the R9800 and yet in this game, the lower "piped" card its faster, which backs up the pipes = Nothing statement :)

The user was right. Number of pipes is just but one factor that helps performance...

I have no idea what your trying to do..if your trying to compare that..then consider how much worse the 5600U card would have been if the R9700's were clocked as high as those cards were (with the leaf blower color attachment needed for the ATI card as well)? Point is it does not really matter on the what iffs......

I was refering to the Pro vs GT perofrmance , talking about the previous generation is another topic we can discuss in more detail if you like .

every gen has its own advantages & disadvantages .

Number of pipes is just but one factor that helps performance...

Then its does mean something afterall .. thanks to you for proving my point ! hehe . :)

Both series of cards, 6800 or X800, are great. I just hope this thread doesn't turn into the inevitable fanboy flame fest.
