I've compiled in the VESA driver, added VGA=ask option and still it only brings up the default VGA low text options. Tried with 2.4 and 2.6 and I'm obviously missing something.
Also tried compiling in rivafb instead but to no avail. Anyone got step by step instructions. I really want the high res.

Slack 10 / 2.6.7. Everything works apart from penguin bootup and NVIDIA drivers.
You can use a kernel boot option,vga=791but I'm unsure of the number.
there's a few excellent links regarding framebuffer...
http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Framebuffer-HOWTO.html (detailed)
http://sub.gotdns.org/linux-tutorials/framebuffer.php (short)
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=49036 (bootsplash + kernel configuration options)
between those, i'm sure you'll be able to find what you're looking for. really i reccomend the bottom one for gentoo users, but the top one for everyone as it explains concepts of framebuffer, and really gives you a good knowledge base of it.

Obviously there is a problem supporting GF4MX nForce 2 chipsets. Followed all examples and still no penguin :(.
Figure the VGA bios is reporting itself as VESA 2.0 non-complient.
